CW: What model should journalism take on Mastodon?
Part of why it's so valuable to be a #freelancer here is that individuals can outperform orgs by competing on trust.
It's a brilliant moment to go back to the basics. What does #trust mean? What does trust feel like? How does it feel when trust is broken or betrayed?
When was the last time we each refined our working definitions of relationship fundamentals? Where have #extraction and #parachuting crept in?
I also think digital #journalism in particular adopted abusive surveillance tactics. News consumers didn't just... not notice that. I consider The Markup the leader re: not tracking individuals.
There is a tremendous power inequality in the stadium dynamic of "one broadcasting to many." Was one-to-many the best ratio for #journalists to earn and maintain trust?
