  1. ...Channel 6 has called PA-3 for Chris Rabb (currently in PA House district 200), with 44% of the vote. Sharif Street (backed by much of the city "machine") got 29%; Ala Stanford (backed by a big-money superPAC) got 24%; Shaun Griffith (without major backing) got 2%.

    Chris Johnson, Rabb's pick to replace him in district 200, won with 62% of the vote; Deshawnda Williams got 23%; Qasim Rashad got 16%.

    Neither faces major challengers in November. Congrats to both! 6abc.com/politics/elections/lo #PAPol

  2. 303 in-person voters at our polling place today, with turnout helped by 2 competitive races. (Our heavily blue precinct had only 4 GOP primary voters, but they had no local competitive races.)

    Rabb won our precinct handly for PA-3, as did Johnson, his pick for the state house seat he's vacating. Rabb's support will probably put Johnson over the top; whether Rabb wins the US House seat depends a lot on how he does in the majority of the district that *doesn't* know him as their state rep. #PApol

  3. Pennsylvanians still have an hour left to #vote in our primary elections. (If you're in line by 8, you can vote.)

    There are at least two notably competitive races where I live. There might not be as many where you are (or there might be more). But many areas also have ballot questions to decide (which you *don't* have to be registered with a particular party to vote on). And voting now can also serve as a rehearsal for making sure you won't have unexpected issues when voting in November. #PAPol

  4. Pennsylvanians, it's time to #vote! Polls are open tomorrow (Tuesday) from 7am to 8pm. Find your local polling place here: pa.gov/services/vote/find-your

    If you have a mail-in or absentee ballot for this election, don't drop it in the mail (by now it won't arrive in time to be counted), but take it in person to any official drop-box or election office in your county and deposit it there: pa.gov/agencies/vote/voter-sup. (These are usually different locations than your in-person voting location.) #PAPol

  5. My PA state representative, Chris Rabb, is now running for US Congress. There's been a fair bit published about the House seat he and others are vying for (PA-3), but not as much about folks running for the state House seat he's vacating (PA House District 200). Here's more about them from the Inquirer inquirer.com/news/pennsylvania and the Chestnut Hill Local: chestnuthilllocal.com/stories/

    Primary election day in PA is Tuesday, May 19, just 5 days from now. Research your local candidates, and vote! #PAPol

  6. As a personal piece of advice, I'd recommend PA voters vote in person if they can, or plan to use an official drop box / return location for absentee or mail-in ballots. (Every county has them; find out where they are in advance here: pa.gov/agencies/vote/voter-sup ) Trump is already attempting to interfere with delivery of mail ballots, and might succeed to some extent via control of the US Postal Service, whether or not that's legal under state or local laws: news.ballotpedia.org/2026/04/0 #PAPol #USPol

  7. RE: digipres.club/@dsalo/116363903

    If you're a Wisconsin citizen, get out and vote today. If you're a citizen of another state, your turn is likely coming soon. In Pennsylvania, for instance, the primary is on May 19, but you'll need to register by May 4 if you haven't already registered, if you've moved, or if you want to register to vote in a particular party's primary when you haven't done that before. Here's where you can find out more, and do whatever you need to prepare: vote.pa/ #PAPol #vote #USPol

  9. BREAKING: With bitter cold temperatures gripping most of Pennsylvania, local experts recommend keeping warm by burning piles of John Fetterman's unsold books.

    #Pennsylvania Sen #JohnFetterman hospitalized after fall

    “Upon evaluation, it was established he had a ventricular fibrillation flare-up that led to Senator #Fetterman feeling light-headed, falling to the ground and hitting his face with minor injuries,” his spokesperson said in a statement Thursday.

  13. A good turnout for an off-year #election in my corner of Philadelphia. 376 people voted in person in my precinct. They didn't count mail-ins on-site, but one poll worker estimated about 100 mail-in ballots in addition.

    As usual for our lefty neighborhood, our local vote proportions (more than 10-1 in favor of DA Krasner, and retaining Democratic SC justices) can't be considered representative of the wider electorate. But our relative turnout often tracks that of other precincts. #PApol #USpol

  14. Voter #274 at my polling place. We had a bit of a line at 4pm (it's a long ballot this time, including lots of PA judgeships), and lines may lengthen as more people get off work.

    Polls are open in Pennsylvania (and in neighboring New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland) until 8pm, and in New York State until 9pm. Eligible voters in line by then should be able to vote, but I'd recommend not cutting it close if you can manage. Show up soon for a good pick of "I voted" stickers! #USPol #PAPol #vote

  15. Tuesday's US election might not be as visible as other #elections, not involving the President or Congress. But it's vitally important to turn out for it.

    Voting now helps ensure we get state and local officials that will serve their people in our constituencies, rather than oligarchs and autocrats. Showing up also helps keep our eyes on the process, and invest in keeping it free and fair.

    If you haven't already voted, read up on your ballot this weekend, and vote Nov 4!

  16. I got a political ad in the mail today, encouraging me to "vote to term-limit" the Pennsylvania Supreme Court by voting no in the upcoming judicial retention election.

    Ahem.

    What they didn't say:
    - the governor could only appoint replacements, for a two-year term, with the approval of the state senate -- which is controlled by Republicans;
    - the soonest there could be an election for their replacement would be in 2027, conspicuously AFTER the 2026 federal mid-term elections;
    - cases involving gerrymandering, redistricting, voter ID, and vote-by-mail regulation are likely to make it to the court by November 2026;
    - the three justices up for vote are all Democrats; if they were removed and not replaced, the remaining court would have a 2-2 split;
    - the non-partisan American Bar Association has said all three should be retained.

    Spread the word.

  17. We got a sneaky flyer today, in a heavily Democratic neighborhood, saying we should "defend our democracy" by "voting to term-limit the PA Supreme Court".

    A term limit rule isn't on the ballot. What the flyer asks us to do, rather, is vote against retaining the 3 PA Supreme Court justices with terms up for renewal. The flyer carefully doesn't say all 3 are Democrats.

    The flyer sponsor is "Commonwealth Partners", linked to billionaire GOP funder Jeffrey Yass: spotlightpa.org/news/2024/12/p #PApol

  18. SEPTA gets to tap a capital fund to cover operating expenses at current service levels for next 2 years: inquirer.com/politics/pennsylv

    PennDOT secretary Mike Carroll is quoted: "I want to again emphasize that the one-time use of SEPTA’s capital assistance allocation is not a long-term or sustainable solution to SEPTA’s budget crisis."

    It looks now like buses & trains will run as before, but fare hike may still happen, and some capital projects may be put off indefinitely.

  19. In #Pittsburgh, a Republican member of Allegheny County Council believes he shouldn't have to stand for election because (waves hands) reasons.

    Republicans no longer believe in elections or democracy at any level. Govern yourselves accordingly.

  20. #Pennsylvania senator David McCormick is throwing down another couple hundred thousand to front run the #StrategicBitcoinReserve and/or make a bet on the collapse of the United States (despite being one of the few hundred people who have enough political power to do something to stop that collapse, e.g. by changing the tariff laws).

  24. Why vote in a local primary? Among other things, it helps ensure the party you choose has the best candidate for the general election. And in many places, the primary winner of the locally dominant party is very likely to win the general election.

    Local office holders not only affect the quality of life in your neighborhood, but also shape the effects of national policies where you are. For example, will your local candidates abet authoritarianism, or resist it? Find out and vote! #uspol #papol

  25. In the US, primary elections are happening very soon in Philadelphia and many other localities. But you'll need to register very soon to vote if you're not already registered. In PA, you have to be registered by May 5 for the primary elections on May 20. More details: whyy.org/articles/pennsylvania #papol #USpol

  27. PA Senate seat in a northern Lancaster County district that went for Trump by 15 points appears to have flipped Democratic for the first time since 1983, as James Malone, who campaigned against the "Trump-Musk agenda", narrowly defeated Republican Josh Parsons in a special election: politicspa.com/stunner-in-lanc. Yesterday's other state legislature special election was also won by the Democrat, securing that party's 1-seat advantage in the Pennsylvania House: wesa.fm/politics-government/20 #PApol #USpol

  28. one of many stories to think about whenever crypto bros are trying to convince you that bitcoin transaction processing ("mining") is environmentally friendly:

    > "The plant burns waste coal, a lower-grade fuel left over from abandoned mining operations, to generate electricity. It uses that electricity for crypto-mining, a process where power-hungry computers generate digital currency like Bitcoin."
