I'm back to working on the paper mache bookshelf I started last winter, and have gotten the bulk of a second layer on at this point.
It's nice to have a somewhat mindless project that just requires gluing paper together.

So... I found 3D print models are available for big massive #wasp nests. Perfect for front door #ICE repellent and also a valuable home for beneficial wasps of the garden. I noticed last year the wasps were often looking for a good place to build a home for their family. I believe these may also be made with papier-mâché over a balloon too. Fun art project for the whole family.

My shelf is refusing to stand straight 🥲
(And no, it's not because it's got something leaning against it. It does that even if there isn't.)

Finally got the first layer on the bookshelf!!
I have a feeling this project is going to sit on the back burner over the summer, so I'm relieved I've gotten this far.
-
The paper mache bookshelf I've been working on has the first layer of the outside completely covered!
Next to do the shelves...

Artrocity Studio presents its latest hybrid critter, combining an Australian sugar glider (a marsupial similar to a flying squirrel) and a Guernsey cow to make...a cream-and-sugar glider.
I imagine someone on a deck, reading a book when a large shadow passes over them. As the person looks up, a 1,000 pound creature forcefully lands on the lawn and starts grazing...
Paper mache, wire, glass beads for the eyes; acrylic paint and fixer.

Artrocity Studio presents the second of a series of "flying fish": a pufferfish hot air balloon. It will be part a future mobile of various light-than-air fishes.
Balloon, paper mache, marbles (eyes), cardboard (gondola), and over 400 toothpick tips for the pufferfish spikes. Acrylic paint and fixer.

Artrocity Studio presents the first of a series of "flying fish": a clownfish derigible. It will be part a future mobile of various light-than-air fishes.
Paper mache fish body, plastic bits from eye drops (engines), plastic bits from flossers (engine strut/extender); acrylic paint and fixer.

I've posted some of this New Orleans artist's work before, but everything he does blows my mind. His latest blog post describes a relief sculpture he did for a wedding in so much detail, it's really amazing to see it come together

I've gathered up some momentum with my paper mache bookshelf project and, I've got a first layer on two sides, as well as the front.
Beginning to think about what color I want it to be...

I make stuff out of junk, and it’s fun but there’s too much of it in my house, and people have said “You should sell those” so I have a Ko-fi page now. https://ko-fi.com/marence/shop

Artrocity Studio presents the sixth and likely last of a series of snails that for inexplicable reasons have household appliances on their backs instead of shells. The final snail has a washing machine. In a somewhat naughty move I put a red sock on top of a load of white clothes.
Wire, cardboard, paper mache, plexiglass for the lid. Acrylic paint and fixer.

And just like that... There were five (almost) decorated bracelets!
These honestly go so fast now that I've got the assembly down for them...
-
Tonight's first bracelet in progress looks a little bit like candy cane stripes.
I've also got 8 bases half paper mached and drying. I'm not sure why I'm hurrying to make so many, I have plenty I'm going to gift away already.

Just finished putting together the bones of what's going to be a paper mache shelf.
I had these lovely solid boxes left over from the art carts I bought, and I thought I couldn't let them go to waste...
Watching this video by beige flannel was really the inspiration.

Today's bracelet is a black and white swirl.
One of the things I love about these is they're so easy and very procedural. The first steps of making the base are so mindless that I can do it even if I don't feel like it.
-
The next bracelet is a bit of a golden newsprint... Not nearly as bold as the ones I've made so far but I kinda dig it.
-
Today's bracelet is pink and black, and I freaking love it!
-
And then there were three paper mache bracelets fully decorated!
Bracelets two and three went a little bit more smoothly due to remembering that wetting the back of the decorative paper makes it more pliable.
Unsure how I want to finish the insides, though.

Just finishing the outside of the the first paper mache bracelet I've made, and so far I'm impressed...
