The #SinclairQL sound system is really pretty bonkers. Documentation is vague and even the explainers I've found are missing stuff while some others are trying to guess. At least in an emulator one can create quite odd results by giving values which don't follow the guidelines.

What was fun was that one command created sound akin to a tune by #Ø, while adding another parameter resulted in a #noise tune by #PanSonic. Awesome!

Thinking back on tonight’s gig reminded me that #PanSonic was one of those bands you really needed to experience live back in the day. Which is ironic considering that their live performance basically looks like, as my friend described it, an engineer intently soldering something. But the audacity of it all, and that sound …. ! And the inexplicable effect it has on people that can’t help but start to move. Brilliant.

So happy to have seen the guy in action again. Of course sadly missing #MikaVainio from #PanSonic by his side physically, but maybe in spirit. But #IlpoVäisänen kicked ass.

Now playing this beautiful album/track from Barry Adamson and Pan Sonic, co-mixed/-produced by Jóhann Jóhannsson, with a remix by the Hafler Trio on side B. Originally put out by the Kitchen Motors label in 2001, they got composer Magnús Blöndal Jóhannsson to agree to have a brain scan while listening to it; his brainwaves from that scan are printed on the original digipak and on the labels of the vinyl reissue.
