  1. not too bad for something previously in multiple pieces with some missing

    now hopefully it’ll hold up

  2. Recounted showing Ortlieb bag and new rack!! This will be much better for sure, and more heel clearance too. #BikeTooter #BikeRepair #panniers

  3. Replacing with this JANND rack. You can see the vast difference in support #BikeTooter #bikerepair #panniers

  4. Folks riding panniers offroad, esp. in wet conditions? How do you prevent the rubbing between the bag and rack eating away material? Did a half-day ride today and about 0.1mm alloy is gone from the rack. If it continues like this, after about 50 days of riding, the entire 10mm diameter will be gone (will of course snap earlier).

  5. @RichSPK Sorry about the big ocean in the way!

Yeah, they're pretty decent for a budget offering, although at the time I found better option for what I needed (2-in-1 panniers that convert into a backpack - the dream! 😍 )

  6. @muddyfields @misc So, there are SO MANY options. about to take the dog for a walk, but will reply when I get back. Also, now is a GREAT time of year to pick up barely used ones on eBay, I was looking in summer and had issues finding them, but there are many, and cheap right now listed.

DIY kitty litter buckets work (in the rain) and fun to make! They are great. Orliebs are dependable and nice, albeit expensive (buy used!) JandD grocery panniers are perfectly sized (but not rain proof). #panniers #biketooter

  7. Yay! More stickers for the kitty litter panniers! Plus a custom illustration of the bike and panniers! Might have to turn that into a cycling sticker itself! #BikeTooter #panniers #stickers #bikestickers

  8. @ascentale @SRLevine #BikeNite A6. I think you need to convince your stylish friend to become one with the geekiness and go for something like my new diy KITTY LITTER PANNIERS!!! FASHIONABLE! STYLISH! UNIQUE! #panniers #stylish #fashion

  9. First road test of the kitty litter panniers! Lessons: 1. They are WIDE. 2. Kicked one off trying to get off the bike, not a ton of heel clearance. 3. Picked up some free stuff someone had put on the curb, and it rattled. Need something in the bottom as padding. 4. Need to keep lids off while in storage, still has kitty litter perfume in there. #panniers #BikeTooter #kittylitter

  10. Double kitty litter bike buckets/panniers. Still not done, need to cover it with more stickers. The DX Engineering stickers are just there for structural strength, will likely cover some of them up with bike stickers, LOL. #panniers #kittylitterpannier #BikeTooter

  11. First pannier test, with just a mild load (ham radio, battery, food, water). Can't even tell I have additional load in there. #BukeTooter #panniers

  12. Materials acquired for DIY panniers. Now I need some color/design ideas. Will wash and then paint these while I wait for hardware. #BikeTooter #panniers #DIY #kittylitterpannier

  13. Pluses/minuses:
JANND: *NICE*. Will last forever, plus a couple of lifetimes. But it will be a lot of shopping by bicycle to justify it. Or I suppose it can be used to haul gear through a disaster or post-apocalyptic landscape someday 🤪
Banjo Brothers: Will do the job. Probably sufficient for my needs. Not colorful though LOL.
DIY: I'd do this, and it would work, but just "doing stuff by bicycle" here is already weird in Southern California. ("Nobody walks in LA")
    Not buying cheap crap.
Touring ones: multiple uses. Not as much cargo capacity, will require repacking groceries at the bike... but a lot of supply available. #BikeTooter #panniers

  14. #Random ponderings about bike panniers for grocery shopping.

    Looks like my options are:
    1. Heirloom quality, last several lifetime panniers (JANND). Will not wear out in my lifetime. $90/each, available in colors ($$$). Occasionally show up at a fraction of that cost used.
    2. Good quality, highly rated, practical (Banjo Brothers) $60/each. Black. Will wear out at some point.
    3. DIY your own "cat litter bucket" style panniers. Cheap! Kits available, but can do it with stuff from the hardware store. NOT fashionable, LOL. $20 or so in parts.
    4. El cheapo, random knockoff on Amazon. Will probably last a trip, crappy, but cheap.
    5. Buy used touring ones. 1/x #Biketooter #panniers

  15. This is a really cool company selling a simple kit you can use to make old plastic cans into panniers for bicycles.

A good pannier changes your life with you bike – and plastic waste changes the life of all creatures on earth. So solve two problems in one! rackhackers.com/

Here's a video on how to use the kit: youtube.com/watch?v=ufyZadnfaq

  16. I also use cheap stackable Sterilite translucent plastics boxes when I need to stack stuff into the cargo box on my box bike. I also have a toolbox that I strap onto my rear rack with bungee cords when I’m doing mobile bike repairs. #CargoBike #bakfiets #panniers greengurugear.com/products/dut (2/2)
