  1. tweaked the back last night. Still sore this morning, so some heat is to be applied to the area.

    #pandemicbath to the rescue.
The view is a little foggy both inside and out.

  2. What does a (Edit: $CAD600) pre-hung door look like you ask?

Well I just happen to have a specimen. 💰 💰

How the hell is stuff this basic, this expensive?? 🚪

On the bright side, we are one step closer to #pandemicbath completion! Hopefully will get it installed by the end of the weekend.
*my memory hyperbolized the expense. lol apologies

  3. @chris we also have a #pandemicbath. Kudos on the trim. That's a time-consuming job. Ours is scheduled for completion sometime in 2026, I estimate. Lol.

  4. We started this project in March 2021. So needless to say, it has been a journey!! #diy #home #oldHomes #pandemicBath

  5. the hardest thing to find was a curtain rod that fit the tub and space and didn't have four ceiling mounts!! (we just wanted it to open on one end at the taps. So we could pull it away from either the window or door side. Thank goodness we found this one!

We finally found it on Wayfair and it wasn't stupidly expensive and looks nice and is well made (excellent instructions!) #diy #home #oldHomes

  6. MILESTONE in the #pandemicBath!!

I had a shower in our upstairs bath for the first time in at least 10 years?? We stopped using the old shower stall eons ago!

Tonight, after a 3hr install of the rod, we can officially have showers up here again!!!

There is still some trim, a door (long story), and small bath accessories needed but we are so close!!

I have never had a ceiling shower! 🚿 And above MY 185cm head!? LUXURY. The curtain hangs a little close to the body but I think I'll be ok.😂

  7. I now have independent confirmation: The view from the new bathtub is acceptable. I can’t imagine why the folks who built the dormer/bathroom back during the war didn’t see the potential of this view. But instead they installed a tiny window. So glad we decided to make it big!

  8. This was the last time the bathtub was in the space! August 2021 just after we bought it and I lugged it up the stairs. It has been sitting jammed into a small landing at the top of the stairs waiting in its plastic and foam ever since!

  9. The part I am most proud of, because I truly did it all myself, is the floor. Only half of it was actually the original flooring. We got additional new fir tongue and groove in December 2021 which I installed and sanded/finished.
You can scroll through the original thread to see the state of the old floor and bath. The next biggest change, done by pros, was making the window larger and adding the skylight (which we actually did way back in 2017!)

  10. IT FINALLY HAPPENED! Three years after starting the #pandemicBath reno, we have all the fixtures in and they look great!!

Last jobs are to put the door on (couldn't because the tub had to fit through frame), trim around the skylight, a blind for the window, and curtain rod above the tub! Should only be a couple more years! 😝

    Original Twitter thread started March 20, 2021! 😱 😆

  11. you know what's the worst diy job? painting trim. 🤢 procrastinating doesn't seem to help though. I've tried that for a few weeks now. 😂 First coat done. #diy #painting #home #homeRenovation #PandemicBath #procrastination

  12. Each of these boards for the #pandemicBath is worth about $75 ($11/ft - vs the flooring... same fir wood... which was $2.50/ft in Dec 2021) so you're darn right I'm gonna try to make them look like a million bucks! 1st of 3 coats of clear polyurethane finish has been applied. Time to sit by the #pandemicPond, admire the two lilly pads that are blooming together for the first time, and try to forget about #greedflation

  13. You're looking at 40ft (4x10ft) of 1x6 fir that would have been $150 a couple years ago that we just paid $475 for and I need a drink. But I can't afford alcohol, so I'll just drink my own tears. #pandemicBath #renovation #inflation #renoflation

  14. This is not a place you ever want to be and not where I planned to be #today. I was installing, or trying to, the bathroom vanity when I realized it needed bracing behind the wall. So I had to crawl into the small cubby hole in our bedroom closet to access the area behind the wall, dig out the insulation, and install some bracing. Sweaty, itchy, cramped, space. #pandemicBath #DIY #HomeReno #PortAlberni

  15. My NAILS. They're RUINED!! 😭 😭 I guess this is why there was no Bathroom Renovation Ken. And if there was Bathroom Reno Barbie, she'd have awesome work gloves.

  16. It’s 11:12PM but doesn’t mean I can’t submit the final work-complete inspection request to the BC online cuz we got the last of the electrical finished up yesterday in the #pandemicBath ! 😂 😁 🙌
Have a working fan and lights! GFI plug and a electric receptacle ready for the lighted mirror! Woooot! Getting so close now! Bit by bit! Next is vanity/sink, baseboard trim, and window sill/trim.

  17. Oh oh! oh! Came home and All the painting is done in the #pandemicBath!! Yay! Trim next. Then plumbing fixtures. #homeRenos #PortAlberni #DIY

  18. Bathroom ceiling painting complete! Walls will have to wait until we get back from Toronto next weekend. It was primed and then we used 2 coats of Latex Exterior paint for extra moisture protection. #pandemicBath #painting #DIY #HomeImprovement #ThisOldHouse #PortAlberni

  19. First look at the final colour of the #pandemicBath. It is more blue grey in this light but seems to alternate between grey, white and even slightly beige in different lights. It’s quite nice. And I’m not big on greys.

  20. In other news, after two years + a month, the #pandemicBath got primered! The finish line is within sight!! Before pics in the next post! #renos #homerenovation #PortAlberni

  21. One of the things that has managed to give me consistent joy this difficult holiday season has been walking up the stairs and seeing the new floors in the #pandemicbath and bedroom. I can’t believe how good they look compared to the floors in the rest of the house. I am so glad this major hurdle has been cleared to get the bathroom done. I’m so proud of having done a half decent job. It literally *feels* so good to touch. It’s amazing. Really. It is 😁 💕

  22. I interrupt the bird drama for this important announcement: For the first time in over a year, we have a 2nd 🚽 again!! 🙌 🙌 Granted not the most private atm 😂 But it’s damned long overdue and just in time for Christmas visits. We’ll find a curtain. 😝 #pandemicbath I’ve included two before pictures.😆

  23. One coat done in the #pandemicbath and the bedroom! I’ll put a link to the previous long thread from last weekend sanding in a reply. #DIY #homeimprovement #thisoldhouse #PortAlberni

1/ This will be a multi-day thread. First try and first cut of the bedroom floor on the way to the first cut for the #pandemicbath ! Getting the hang of the big machine. It’s gonna look amazing. Will be sealed and finished clear, no stain. Edging tomorrow after the first cut on the bathroom. See image Alt text for more detail.

  25. Just ordered a new toilet for the #pandemicbath project and simultaneously discovered there is a toilet emoji. 🚽
    Things are looking up people!
