With both buckets in place, I can add the top layers. Two layers of pallet planks to have the required width. Used the borrowed jigsaw again, the measurements were a bit exhausting and I messed up one piece which was super stupid because I was running out of planks. But I made it with the last full size plank 💪 Really loving this

A practical #woodworking project I finally finished last year.
I built a shoebox from #palletwood. The box is slim to reduce the footprint. When storms hit and the wind picks up, our shoes used to get soaked. Now they’re protected from the elements — and the area looks much tidier too.

Taking those things apart is another story. Since single use pallets are not standardized, some are super fragile and others built like little wooden tanks. Neither means they’re easy to take apart, the fragile stuff might just break super quick as well. So in the end it’s mostly luck and lots of practice. And ideally you don’t always need the entire length of each piece of wood, so it’s not that bad if they break at one end

I’m a big believer in unfinished projects. There’s no shame in putting artwork down when inspiration dries up, and just waiting to see what happens. I started these 3 pieces (on pine) 7 years ago. They finally got more attention today. When feeling creative, I don’t always want to start something. It’s nice having a library of projects at various stages, evolving over time

A closeup of some of my freehand pyrography, a 2p coin included for reference. This piece was burned on abandoned pallet wood that was glued together, took me around 80 hours to make. Sits in my bedroom until I take some time to put woodwork in my shop. I love having this piece around though. Was a lockdown project.
