Any pager that uses termcap/terminfo and does so properly will enter/exit 'cursor addressing mode', which will normally end up switching to and from the XTerm alternate screen, which isn't what you want.

AFAIAA not even the #Illumos pg is as dumb as you want. That uses terminfo, too.

You'd have to resurrect something from 1977 or so.

Or see how far forcing TERM=dumb gets you.

Hands up, those who remember that manual pages are actually formatted for paper, and for 4 decades most of us have been using a filter option in the pager programs to squeeze out all of blank lines in the page headers and footers.

It's interesting to see that some more modern manual pages have done away with the extra blank lines and actually display just fine on a terminal without the filter.

We might be able to drop the filter in another 20 years, at this rate. (-:

#AmateurRadio has a lot of awards. It also has #pagers, because thanks to #DAPNET, everything old is new again. So why not have awards for making contacts via paging?

1. DAPNET uses UHF, so it’s open to all hams regardless of license class.
2. More people turn on #POCSAG in their hotspots, growing the DAPNET network.
3. LotW won’t accept Internet-assisted QSOs, but QRZ does!
4. It encourages proper logging.
5. Bored with #HamRadio? Try a new mode!

I keep expecting some sort of state level condemnation of this. Instead pundits repeatedly described this new method of inflicting remote mass, life changing disabilities as ‘audacious’.

A disturbing green light for other groups to use this attack vector.

Not hard to imagine one or two of these horrific attacks against a civilian population, creating a future where people are too scared to carry connected devices.

10/ If one looks closely, one can see that actually two slightly different AR-924 #pagers are shown: the newer one from 2022-10-10 gained small nubs on the buttons. My guess (see below) is that they are status LEDs.
So, whoever built them created multiple revisions.
