It wasn't the first desktop publishing app, but it was the first of importance. I use it to rebuild the 40-year defunct #OMNI Magazine, resurrect a 40-year defunct software rivalry, and examine how the effects of the publishing revolution trickled through the public sector.

I cut my design teeth on this.
3 months of learning traditional typesetting and layout for our high school newspaper, we got this on the only Mac SE our entire school (or anyone in the school) had. The year was 1988. The version was 3.0. We didn't use QuarkXpress. We used this. I gravitated towards it, instantly.

#SwiftUI: Wonder how many people know or remember how DIFFICULT it was to implement #FloatingWindows (first seen in #Aldus #PageMaker), #palettes, and #TearOffMenus in classic #MacOS.
The #WindowManager was a bear, wasn’t it, Dylan, Jeff?

Change is fast and slow at the same time. It's crazy to me when I remember how much technology changed in the newsroom before I finally tapped out. And how few people it took to run a newspaper by the end.

“It’s always flow control.” I printed again but instead of the ImageWriter II, I sent it over RS-232 and captured it with CoolTerm. I then sent that file (400K) to the ImageWriter II over serial. The flow control gods were smiling because it worked that time! So, I just need an external print buffer/spooler for CDTV and A-Max 😅
