CW: Rambling about my Pathfinder TTRPG Characters
My favorite Pathfinder character, @[email protected] has a "pet" weasel, Torch. (Pictured) Ryel is convinced she and Torch can talk to each other. Unfortunately for Ryel, she's not magical, she's not a druid, she does not have any ability to speak to animals.
Some new rules in the recent Howl of the Wild book gave me some fun ideas for how to handle this.
Torch is actually an "awakened animal" as outlined in HotW. He had some sort of magical event happen to him where he gained sentience. He's basically a tiny person. He speaks Taldane (Common).
He's incredibly food motivated as a person so when the opportunity presented itself to get some snacks from the dumb looking elf, he went for it! He'll do anything to keep the snacks flowing, including really really committing to the bit of pretending to be a regular weasel.
When Ryel "speaks" to him, she's just simply speaking Taldane to a tiny person who also speaks Taldane. But Torch is smart enough to only speak to Ryel so his secret doesn't get out.
The rumor that Torch runs an underground rodent thieves guild is absolutely true. When he's not with Ryel he's the tiny little charlatan rogue coordinating a group of cute rodents- some awakened but most not- who rob citizens of Absalom blind.
When I have some more cash available I'm really looking forward to commissioning some art of Adventure Torch!

I got my hands on the new Pathfinder Howl of the Wild rulebook and I'm super excited about the Awakened Animal ancestry.
Anyone happen to know of any pet weasels who are total scammers, get treated like royalty by their elf, and may/may not run an underground rodent thieves guild in Absalom?

Spent some time recently organizing notes from Pathfinder and noticed that across the two games I'm involved in there's a lot of femininity.
I don't have all the NPCs listed, but I'm pretty sure I've only created 2 or 3 who use "he/him" pronouns and at least one of them hasn't always. I guess you write what you know?

The best thing about today's #Pathfinder session was that our most experienced player and GM, @[email protected], told me that today was "amazing." I'll be riding that high as a GM for weeks.
I'm trying to hold myself to lower standards, both professionally and personally. #ADHD makes it hard for me to see something to completion in general, but it also makes me strive for "perfection."
Nothing is worth doing if you can't do it perfectly, right?
False. Getting a thing done is often more important than doing it perfectly.
This shift made my last on-call rotation at work WAY less stressful- maybe even enjoyable. Our session today was the same. Less stressful, more story rich, more fun.
Trying to be perfect sucks.

Had a GREAT #Pathfinder session today after a mental health crisis put a pause in the game for some weeks.
My players met The Harlequin- the enigmatic, chaotic enby leader of The Forthright. The Forthright is a Robin Hood-esque guild of thieves who manage to work right on the edge of legality in most situations throughout Absalom. They're something of folk heroes who could manage to rob their fans blind and then be thanked for it.
The Harlequin presented the PCs with some choices that would require them to do things their friends would resent them for... But my players are tricksy so my backup plan was deployed... And then they took it a different and unexpected direction.
I love my players.

In #Pathfinder1e, ghoul/ghast paralysis lasts 1d4+1 rounds.
In #Pathfinder2e, ghoul/ghast paralysis lasts until a creature saves against its DC, but the DC decreases every round while paralysis persists.
For my #P1e #Ustalav game, I'm thinking about adding the #P2e save-every-round mechanic. Paralysis would still be 1d4+1 rounds, but with an early exit saving throw each round with a diminishing DC. This would allow a chance for a player to be back to playing faster.
