"After making his home in the urban Griffith Park — home of the Hollywood Sign — for the past decade, P-22 became a symbol for California’s endangered mountain lions and their decreasing genetic diversity. The mountain lion’s name comes from being the 22nd puma in a National Park Service study.
"The traditional tribal burial included songs, prayers and sage smoke cleansings, according to Alan Salazar, a tribal member of the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians and a descendent of the Chumash tribe.
"Mountain lions are regarded as relatives and considered teachers in the Chumash, Tataviam and Gabrielino (Tongva) the Chumash, Tataviam and Gabrielino (Tongva) tribal communities."

This is devastating, particularly the cause of death. He was a local hero, and did wonders raising awareness of the plight of urban animals. Let's all break out a tissue for poor #MountainLion #p22, famous for becoming alone and isolated in LA's Griffith Park. He was the figurehead of a successful campaign to build #wildlifeCorridors through the city. But recently he killed a small dog and was captured, only do discover he was badly injured, probably by a car, and generally in poor health. I only learned of his existence a few weeks ago. Sorry. Wish you had a better life, fella.

My neighbor just sent me this article about our beloved #MountainLion #P22 was hit by a car right by our homes in the #LosFeliz neighborhood of #LosAngeles. There have been many more sightings recently and it might be indicative of it getting more difficult to survive on his own.
