I created #GeoPulse accounts for each family member and migrated all location history data from the #Owntracks recorder. The last bit was to switch #HomeAssistant location reporting to it.

I'm not sure we will use GeoPulse often, but it's nice to know we have #SelfHosted location history.

Can't wait to integrate it with #Immich, once we move there.

Today's IT project was to install an MQTT broker on my #SelfHosting #HomeLab. After a bit of shenanigans with DNS and certificates I've got it working. I'm using the Caddy proxy to generate me a certificate, and a shell script to copy the certificate to my docker host for use by the #Mosquitto #MQTT broker. My router and DNS server make sure the messages end up on the docker host, and a test application on my home desktop is able to subscribe and receive messages from the broker.

The real fun starts now... writing an app that receives my location data from #OwnTracks on my phone, stores it in a database, and ultimately does all sorts of pretty geospatial stuff.

What is the "dumbest" phone that will run #OwnTracks ? I need to buy a phone for a kid, and ideally I'd want a non-smartphone, something like a Nokia 3210. No youtube, no web, no social media. I would really like it to run OwnTracks though. I've read some "dumbphones" run versions of android, like the Keyphone, or the Mudita Kompakt. Does anyone have experience with this? @owntracks

Inspecting the track page let me figure out a page to request a geojson file from, but it doesn't have any time information in it :(

I know this sounds contradictory, but is there such a thing as a #dumbphone that runs a privacy respecting version of #android, similar to /e/OS? I'm planning to buy a phone for a kid, and I was originally looking at a #Nokia3210 or something similar. No apps or internet access. But then I wondered if a compromise existed. Specifically, it would be nice to be able to setup #owntracks on the phone, for location sharing, and maybe a few other useful apps, like #comaps. Does such a device exist? 🤔

Has anyone managed to get #OwnTracks running with container manager on their #synology #nas ? I plan to (try to) use it with @tailscale , if possible. Reading the owntracks quicksetup guide. but it only mentions VPS. Would be sweet if anyone has seen a guide suitable for newbies like me. #selfHosting Seems to be at least some frustration on the matter: https://github.com/owntracks/talk/issues/253

@sofasophia Ich hatte den selben Effekt schon ein paar Mal mit @owntracks erlebt. Unter Android allerdings viel schlimmer als unter iOS. (Kann aber auch daran liegen, dass sich die Standort-Erkennung in den Jahren verbessert hat.)

Teilweise hat er wohl stumpf gedacht, ich sei plötzlich Daheim und andere Male kam es mir vor, als wenn der Standort via WLAN erkannt worden ist - allerdings das jeweilige WLAN-Gerät vor kurzem noch ganz woanders war. (Auf diese Art hat mich die Karten-App auch schonmal von einem Einkaufszentrum in Deutschland in ein ganz anderes Land teleportiert.)

Ich weiß nicht mehr, ob ich irgendwas an den #OwnTracks Einstellungen gedreht habe, aber ich habe das nun schon eine ganze Weile nicht mehr gesehen.

#OwnTracks gibt den Standort von mir und meiner Frau weiter an #HomeAssistant.
Allerdings hätte meine Frau gerne eine App auf dem Handy, wo sie meinen #Standort sieht. Am besten auch noch mit der Möglichkeit zu mir zu navigieren.
Gibt es evtl eine schöne Ansicht für HA, welche übersichtlich ist, die aktuelle Adresse, Standort Verlauf und die Möglichkeit zum Navigieren anbietet, wenn man auf einen Button tippt? Dann bräuchte ich nicht noch eine extra App.

Ich hatte den Featurewunsch für die iOS-App von @owntracks bereits im Kopf formuliert, als ich dachte: „Probier einfach mal ein bisschen herum, vielleicht geht es ja irgendwie anders“.

Naja, es stellt sich raus, die #Owntracks App genau das Gewünschte bereits eingebaut hat: nämlich die Umschaltung des Monitoring Mode via Apple Shortcuts.

Damit kann ich beim Rausgehen das iPhone an einem präparierten NFC-Sticker vorbeiziehen und den Owntracks Mode automatisch auf „Move“ umstellen.

@ix Ist #OwnTracks bei dir dauerhaft im Move-Mode? Habe das mal eine Weile gemacht und der Impact auf den Akku ist bei mir leider etwas zu beachtlich.

OwnTracks, my geo-logging software of choice, has a function to post PoIs with a (little) photo to the connected backend.

I’ve been using this function as visual diary for a while, in my little PHP application. And just this weekend I had the smart idea: why not put this information onto OpenStreetMap as well? I have the exact coordinates, I have a name and I have a little picture to tell me what kind of PoI we’re talking about.

And so I turned this:

Auf meiner #Nextcloud bei Hetzner habe ich #Phonetrack installiert.
Nun möchte ich auf zwei Android Handys den #Standort mit #OwnTracks aufzeichnen und verfolgen. Mit einem Handy geht das gut, aber wenn ich ein zweites Handy verbinde, wird das erste irgendwie überschrieben.
Wie kann ich damit den Standort von zwei Handys verfolgen?
Nutzt das evtl jemand schon so.
Falls jemand eine Alternative kennt, dann immer her damit.
