Earlier today, #DawnOfTheRangers #StarWarsRPG campaign continues with maps on #OwlbearRodeo for the first time ever. The Rangers, Spotchka Squad, miraculously saved over a hundred slave miners without losing even one, even with two E-Webs trained on them.

I am impressed.

We're using #OwlbearRodeo to track our action dice pools for #Fallout.

As we played, we quickly realized we needed a way to track the dice available to spend. #Fallout2d20

TIL that Owlbear Rodeo source *was* released, but under a non-Free license that explicitly disallows modifications, even local ones.

So instead of helping to build a community around their product, they've fulfilled a promise to the community, but only barely but ensured that the thing they released was a dead end, as they promised no updates, offer no support officially or unofficially, and as I said, banned modifications.

To me this burns through the good will Owlbear Rodeo built up. :(

@whirling Good to know! My frustration level isn't that high, but I like knowing what other VTTs can do.

I'm going to play around with #OwlbearRodeo tonight. It's been the @lairofsecrets go to for a quick/easy VTT, though we haven't done much with 2.0.

Woohoo, this Role/Owlbear Rodeo stuff is really shaping up. I found a cool extension for doing clocks.

That's great to hear! The #VTT space is in a really good spot, I think. Even #roll20 has been making some solid strides (and I am a pro plus something user, because that's where I started out and am locked in with my purchases and it wasn't too buggy for me).

Why is #OwlbearRodeo your choice, if I might ask?

had a #dnd game last night. finally getting back to my #westmarches game . since I last played #OwlbearRodeo has had a major version update. Its was always good but its really a top notch tool now. Still a perfectly useble free tier, particularly for my infrequen online play, but I'm gonna be handing over my cash to reward the efforts and get some of those nice additional benefits.

@kingu Depends. If we need something lightweight, #OwlbearRodeo. For something meatier, where rule support is helpful (eg #CyberpunkRED) and the maps are largely 2D, the #Roll20. For sessions that benefit from three dimensions, #TaleSpire.

Most of our Lair communications happen on #Discord (coordination sessions, game updates, funny posts). We also use Discord for voice and video during games.

@greycat I think for many games, #FoundryVTT is the best. (#Pathfinder, #Shadowdark, #OSE)

#Roll20 has an edge for #5E first party content if you want to invest heavily in that, though community/second party 5E content is great on Foundry.

#Role is up and coming, I know #vastgrimm, #Dune, and other games are showing up there recently.

So excited to finally get back to our #TalesOfMyriad mini-adventure tonight! Our little Saturday group has had a few weeks off due to scheduling hiccups and illness and such, and I just can't wait to run again. GMing is one of my favourite things, especially for this group! Let's see how it goes. :D

@grueproof No, this time around I used #OwlbearRodeo. I've never used it as a GM, and it seemed like a good time to give it a whirl. Worked pretty well. And the guys are very interested in playing more #CyberpunkRED.

I tried #owlbearrodeo for the first time last week as a GM. It seems like great tool and provides a way to display maps and other visuals without be being overwhelming. I have yet to run my first battle though I am looking forward to that experience. #gmdm

Wer hat #OwlbearRodeo schon mal benutzt? Ich bin ein Theater of Mind SL, ab und an braucht’s aber mal eine gewisse Übersicht wer grob wo ist. Dafür und für lightweight Spiele brauche ich aber den ganzen Sums der Kommerziellen VTTS nicht. Das Rodeo sieht ganz gut aus, um für meine Zwecke gut zu passen. Erfahrungen wären daher interessant.

I set up #TempleOfTheMoonPriests in #OwlbearRodeo to hopefully run #Cairn for my #boardgamegroup friends tonight. I decided to use the @slyflourish method of the bare minimum implementation and focus on more important things for my #ttrpg session.

Amusingly, one of the #OwlbearRodeo adjacent searches that people search for is "can you train an owlbear". Which sounds like a great blog post idea.

Came across #KenkuFM while looking for posts related to #OwlbearRodeo. It pitches itself as "Online tabletop audio sharing for Discord", which seems like a handy thing for online gaming.

Basically, it's a web-based, virtual table top. It's biggest advantage is easy of setup and use (at least from what I've seen in the sessions that David's run). I'm hoping to find some time today (between cleaning up for Christmas, setting up the tree, etc.) to play with it.
