  3. Hermes agreed and opened the door to Herse's chamber with his caduceus. When Aglauros wanted to rise in protest, she couldn't. She fought to raise herself up and straighten her body, but to no avail: rock was already taking hold of her throat, her mouth was growing hard, until she sat there, nothing but a bloodless statue.

The myth is told by #Ovid, in Metamorphoses, 2, ll. 711–832

  4. BoP: i am leading a team-meeting, and i think we're going to talk about the myth of Pygmalion in thinking about self-fulfilling prophecies

    * Pygmalion - sculptor who fell in love with, in all ways, a statue he made & eventually Aphrodite turned the statue into a woman.*

me, co-host of a #podcast about the #astronomy and #mythology of the #constellations: perhaps, #GreekMythology is not the right choice for a #work meeting 😅

  5. #SteamNextFest is over, but I found two demos yesterday I really liked and wanted to shout out, starting with the beautiful #HellMaiden. Just watch this video. #AstralShift's games have this incredible hand-drawn animation style, and seeing #Virgil, #Ovid, and Dante as anime girls is strange and charming.

  8. I just finished N⁰ 73 of Penguin Little Black Classics as my first of the set to read. I love the story of Icarus. Scylla cutting off Nisus' purple tress to give to Minos has a certain fantasticism to it that's not often seen in contemporary lit. This was a breeze of a read at 56 pages and I'd recommend it to anyone facing a reading slump or just wanting a casual introduction to Ovid.

  9. Who was Ovid, anyway? He was a Roman poet who lived during the reign of Augustus, a younger contemporary of Virgil and Horace. These poets are the three canonical poets of Latin literature.

And nine more facts about Ovid you might not know.
