  1. "The main reason is that it is a misnomer. Not only can people have the condition without having polycystic ovaries, but the condition does not involve cysts.
    ...
In particular PMOS reflects the long-term, complex nature of the health condition, emphasising that it is a hormonal or “endocrine” disorder that can affect the body’s reproductive and metabolic systems and is associated with multiple health conditions."

  3. Big News for those with PCOS!

It's just formally been renamed Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome, or PMOS.

This reflects that it's a *systemic* issue, not just a pain in the ovaries.

Hopefully this will move the needle on the oft ill-informed, crappy attitude found in clinicians who really ought to know better.

Is Delaying #Menopause the Key to Longevity? nytimes.com/2024/06/24/well/li
'While women, on average, live longer than men, they spend more time living with diseases or disabilities. It is the #ovaries truncated life span that also makes them a promising site for experimentation. Researchers think that prolonging their function, better aligning the length of their viability with that of other organs, could potentially alter the course of a woman’s health'

  9. Intriguingly, Bryan noticed that there were profound #SexDifferences ♂️♀️ in #TE control and #piRNA landscapes both at steady state in young adults and in how the gonadal transcriptomes changed with aging. Indeed, #ovaries saw MUCH more changes than #testes. 5/n

  11. CW: #perimenopause #bodies #poll

Informal poll, since research on this is rubbish and perimenopause only recently got recognised as a thing, even.

If you're confident you had or are having symptoms, when did they begin?

  12. We predict that the #USCongress will legalise #abortion, before young women go to have their #ovaries removed.

That or start thinking of names for your new #breakaway country.

  13. Something worth adding is a photo of a happy family with a teen and a dog (or cat but good luck finding a cat that enjoys a studio portrait).

Did you know #women felt guilt using a #cakeMix in the 1950s. It made baking a cake too easy.

So marketing instructed women to add an egg, a #psychoanalyst worked out that the #egg would represent her #ovaries. Sales of cake mixes shot up immediately.
