Unless forced upon me—e.g., in customer support scenarios—I've only ever used a chatbot for about fifteen minutes and a text-to-image tool for about thirty minutes. To this day.

Those are my lifetime totals for voluntary use of generative so-called artificial intelligence.

Basically, I was unimpressed with both of those technologies after experimenting a little. I found them unnecessary, at best. And therefore not even close to being worth their environmental cost. I've been avoiding them ever since. Even during web searches.

I figure there's something at least slightly wrong with me, or my perspective, regarding this. But for now, I don't get why so many folks here keep passionately discussing generative #AI systems.

Those technologies remind me of, like, wristwatches (but with weak batteries!): superfluous when other common devices that have clocks are around.

Though wristwatches don't get discussed as much.

Apparently I'm missing something.

When people say waffle this, waffle that, in the context of some social media, are they talking about wafrn? Or am I assuming too much and it's something else?

I’m seeing something of an undercurrent of people expressing interest in moving off the #Mastodon platform following the anti-AI policy update to mastodonsocial. The fediverse generally seems against burning up the planet for comically bad, inefficient technology… so what am I missing?
