Over at OnTableTopDOTCom community member zoidpinhead wrote a little guest entry on how he came to start Kings Of War. Read it here if you wish.

The actual article is of little concern for my little write up here but one quote at the end of the article triggert something in me.

So if you are looking for a summer project, perhaps starting with Kings of War 4th Edition should be the one.

And there it is. „Summer project“. Now, my spare time is (as I have complained about long and wide) very limited and maybe it my profession that really sours the word „project“. But the phrase really made me go „Uuuuuh noooo! Go away!“

Let me explain: I work in IT (in case you didn’t know) and any project there tends to be:

• long
• exhausting
• more complicated then planned

and they never end. Because IT is not a thing that reaches a „final state“. It’s constantly evolving and changing so no project is ever really and truly finished.

And now my hobby shall become the same? Hell the flock no!

Intellectually I know that the phrase was meant in a different way but my gut punched me good on this one.

I really don’t want to think of my hobby in project terms. Even though I used that word in the past myself. Maybe it was the addition of the time frame „summer“ that made me go „uuuuuh!“ IDK

How do you look at your hobby? Do you think in projects? Steps? Stages? Or do you just „do hobby“ when you feel like it?
