  3. I crushed my May running goal for the #MillionReasonsRun!

I capped off my May #running with a 6km loop along the Fox River "River Walk" trail system in #Oshkosh, WI.

My goal was 75km. I only kicked off my running in May after a long winter on the indoor bike and elliptical machine. It was rough starting out, but I managed to go from a few km/run to 6-8km per run by today.

    I ended at 87km!

  5. Very proud of this run yesterday! While in Oshkosh, WI to celebrate the high school graduation of my niece, I ran 8.2km using the "River Walk" trails along the Fox River. It was a beautiful day (20C) for what became a great run.

I have now exceeded the 75km goal I set for myself in May. I hit 82km yesterday!

Depending on how I feel today, I may have one more run in me for this month. Stay tuned!

  14. #WarmingShelters and cold-weather resources across Northeast #Wisconsin

    Michelle Wenz
Tue, December 2, 2025 at 3:38 PM EST

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – "As winter temperatures settle into Northeast Wisconsin, counties across the region are activating warming centers and emergency shelters to help protect residents from the cold.

"Local officials are urging anyone without #ReliableHeat, or anyone who may be vulnerable during #ExtremeWeather, to use the warming locations available in their communities. Many sites operate during regular business hours, while several overnight shelters expand capacity during the winter months.

Officials recommend calling ahead, as hours and availability may change based on staffing, weather conditions or demand.

Here is a county-by-county look at warming locations and shelters currently available across Northeast Wisconsin:

    BROWN COUNTY (#GreenBayWI Area)

St. John’s Ministries — Men’s Shelter, 411 St. John St., Green Bay; Women’s Shelter, 700 E. Walnut St., Green Bay
Seasonal emergency shelters open nightly for the winter season, offering overnight refuge and support services. Daytime resource centers, including the Micah Center and Wellspring, also provide warmth and assistance.

New Community Shelter — 301 Mather St., Green Bay
Open year-round, 24 hours a day, the shelter provides emergency housing for adults, daily meals and transitional support programs.

House of Hope — 1660 Christiana St., Green Bay
Offers shelter and services for youth and young parents in need of emergency housing.

The Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay — 626 Union Court, Green Bay
Operates as a daytime warming center when temperatures or wind chills reach 0°F or below, providing a warm space and hot meals.

    WINNEBAGO COUNTY

Public libraries and community centers throughout #WinnebagoCounty serve as warming locations during regular hours:

    Menasha Public Library — 440 1st St., #Menasha

    Neenah Public Library — 240 E. Wisconsin Ave., #Neenah

Oshkosh Public Library — 106 Washington Ave., #Oshkosh

    Omro Public Library — 405 E. Huron St., #Omro

State Street Center — 206 State St., Oshkosh

St. Paul Lutheran Church — 200 N. Commercial St., Neenah
Opens as a warming location during periods of extreme cold, typically when temperatures reach 10°F or below.

Additional overnight resources include Day by Day Shelter and Father Carr’s Place 2B in Oshkosh, which provide emergency beds and meals for individuals experiencing homelessness.

    FOX VALLEY / OUTAGAMIE COUNTY

While not all warming centers activate daily, several #FoxValley organizations offer cold-weather refuge:

Public #libraries in Appleton and surrounding communities often serve as warming sites during business hours.

#Churches and #nonprofit agencies throughout the Fox Valley open temporary warming spaces based on weather conditions, community needs and staffing levels.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local announcements or contact #211 for the most up-to-date listings.

    MANITOWOC COUNTY

#Manitowoc Warming Shelter — 702 State St., Manitowoc
The shelter is scheduled to operate November 12, 2025, through April 10, 2026, providing overnight space for up to 12 individuals along with an evening meal and breakfast.

Additional housing assistance is available through Hope House of Manitowoc County, which serves families, couples and single women, and The Haven of Manitowoc County, a men’s shelter offering emergency lodging and support services.

Residents across Northeast Wisconsin can also call #211Wisconsin for a current list of open warming centers, shelters and support programs. The service operates 24/7 and helps connect people with the nearest available assistance during periods of #ExtremeCold."

  16. Weekly output: USPS NGDV, spectrum policy, Pixel Drop, Uber’s robotaxi hopes, AI + cybersecurity, Tesla Files, Cerebras, New Glenn launch and landing, Cory Doctorow

Friday afternoon’s landing at Dulles and subsequent Metro ride home put this year’s business travel in the books–unless somebody else is prepared to pay for an additional work trip in 2025, and not even I want that to happen.

11/10/2025: I Took America’s Goofiest-Looking EV for a Spin. It Might Swing by Your Mailbox Soon, PCMag

My mid-October trip to Wisconsin (with Oshkosh Corp. paying for the airfare and lodging) yielded this report about the U.S. Postal Service’s NextGen Delivery Vehicle that I have yet to see in operation near me.

11/11/2025: It’s easy to reassign spectrum if you’re not the one using it, Light Reading

I rounded out this recap of a spectrum-policy conference I’d attended at the end of October with some quotes from a broadband expert whose insight I’ve been borrowing for the last 15 years or so.

11/11/2025: Google’s Latest Pixel Drop Adds Messaging Tricks And Tweaks, PCMag

The time-zone spread between the 2 p.m. Eastern embargo time for this item and my Western European local time for most of last week made this easy to file between other Web Summit schedule commitments.

11/12/2025: Cybersecurity at the pace of AI, Web Summit

The first of three panels I moderated at this conference in Lisbon had me quizzing Rob Daly, CTO of the security-training firm SoSafe, about how AI has complicated the work of people like him. As in previous years, Web Summit’s organizers paid for my lodging and are reimbursing me for my airfare.

11/12/2025: The Tesla Files: Leaks, power, and control, Web Summit

Later that Wednesday, I interviewed Sönke Iwersen, head of investigative research at Handelsblatt, about that German newspaper’s groundbreaking reporting on Tesla’s secretive and often careless approach to safety. Iwersen brought up a part of this story that hadn’t emerged in my pre-conference banter over e-mail with him: the steep personal price the paper’s informant has paid.

11/13/2025: The startups taking on Nvidia, Web Summit

Where my onstage interview of Cerebras CEO Andrew Feldman at Web Summit Qatar in February had me running out of questions in my hand-written outline, this chat Thursday afternoon with that AI-processor startup’s chief strategy officer Andy Hock required me to cross out some queries in my notes because he answered the others at such length.

11/13/2025: Uber COO on Robotaxis: The Economics Don’t Work…Yet, PCMag

This panel happened late Tuesday afternoon, right before a crowded evening schedule; having to moderate two panels of my own on Wednesday pushed my filing time to Wednesday afternoon.

11/14/2025: Blue Origin Lands Its Giant Rocket’s Booster for the First Time, PCMag

A hold late in the countdown pushed the second launch of New Glenn to around dinnertime in Lisbon. So I didn’t get to watch any part of this mission on a screen larger than my phone’s until after I got back to my hotel–with fewer hours left than I would have liked before I had to head to Lisbon’s airport to fly back to the States.

11/14/2025: Cory Doctorow’s Plan for a Better Internet: Legalize Jailbreaking, Modding, and Tinkering, PCMag

I did not plan on my Web Summit coverage giving me a chance to put the neologism “enshittogenic” into the opening paragraphs of a story, but sometimes life comes at you fast.

  18. New sport pilot regulations remove LSA weight limit, expand privileges

"Aircraft with maximum speeds of 250 knots calibrated airspeed, retractable gear, and constant-speed propellers will now qualify as light sport aircraft under the highly anticipated Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification (MOSAIC), which dramatically expands the LSA category and sport pilot privileges. Aircraft with flaps-down stall speeds up to 61 KCAS will be able to be certified as LSAs, and pilots will be able to operate aircraft with clean stall speeds of up to 59 KCAS under sport pilot privileges."

"The most significant revision request is an increase in the stall speed to 58 knots from the 54 knots in the first version of the rule. That will capture dozens of light aircraft types including popular Piper and Cessna models that would have been ineligible because of the speed requirement."

More people will be allowed to fly more aircraft models, with less restrictive medical requirements.
