Open and commercial don’t have to be at odds.
At #OSFair2025, IOI’s Emma Green led a panel challenging the divide between open and commercial worlds — and highlighting why bridging them is crucial for sustainable research infrastructure.
One of the key takeaways was that many in open science still lack the business skills to build viable, long-term partnerships. Bridging values with sustainability is key.

Just back from the @osfair 2025 at CERN, where I was very proud to introduce the Principles of Open Science Monitoring, the first output of @osmi, in a fantastic panel led by Agata Morka, with Iain Hrynaszkiewicz and Kirsty Merrett.
We had a wonderful audience and lots of questions. I also had the priviledge to visit the antimatter factory, a must-see ! And of course, as always in conferences, I was happy to connect in-person with #OpenScience friends.
A few highlights that resonated with me:
✔️ The alignment (or misalignment) between EU and national policies remains a key tension point, with success stories but also gaps
✔️ Reforming research assessment is still crucial if we want open practices to be truly rewarded, BUT let’s not create an open-science index
✔️Finally, the broader context matters: politics, AI, and global competition are shaping the future of science just as much as infrastructures and policiesAlso very impressed by the work of @swheritage, which carried out a detailed analysis of the software produced by CERN 👏 #OSFair2025

📢 Call for translators en français #OSFair2025 @osfair and #NISOPlus25 @NISOInfo
You may have attended the talks on the Publication Facts Label, and we have a call to action if you'd like to contribute!
The #PFLabel is ready for its production release for OJS v3.3-3.5 in 9 languages but it is ~ 460 words short en français and we'd love to include French in the release.
Can you help? Learn more about the PFL and the call:

🚀 Day Three kicks off at #OSFair2025 with a powerful conversation on Reforming Research Assessment.
Key insights from the panel:
🔹 “At the beginning, Open Science was at the least of the universities’ priorities, with too much focus on open access publications. Nowadays, as we see at EUA, many are stepping up for the Research Assessment Reform.” — Pastora Martinez, EUA
