The OSF is unfortunately losing functionalities. Do check the announcement if you had ongoing research projects, some may need to be moved elsewhere.

Uh-oh: I just got an email saying that @CenterforOpenScience will be phasing out the "project workflow" of the #OpenScienceFramework (it will remain as a site for planning #preregistration). Using this as a repository for files, code, results and tools has been a major part of my research workflow the last >12 years. This means I'll have to find replacement solutions, and make significant changes to my research workflows, collaboration, and teaching.

A problem I've been thinking about for a while: let's say you want to make a custom online survey. Hosting the survey page itself is probably no big deal, but what about the backend for collecting the survey data?

You could go with something like Google Forms, but it's rather inflexible and leaves you - again - at the mercy of $BIG_TECH. Why isn't this a feature of #OSF?

Does anyone else in #science really dislike osf.io these days?

It is prettier, but always slow as molasses, and it seems like it is harder to use. It used to be plainer, but super quick! I will refrain from judging ease of use, but as a user from the before times I do not find it easier. At all.
