  4. Some say that journal articles are like buses...

I'm very happy to announce that two of the chapters from my PhD thesis were just published, within a week of each other!

  5. My first research summary post is about my collaboration with Andrew Anderson and Joseph Mozingo (University of Utah) and Harry Kim (Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children) to produce a framework for statistical shape modeling of Perthes' disease!

  6. The main product of this paper is a framework and a foundation for future collaborative work, and there's a strong argument for open science practices.

For example, we made sure all of our steps could be completed with open-source software for researchers who want to adapt or add to our shape model.

Perthes' is so rare and variable that no individual centre can feasibly build up a statistical model of 3D morphology - opening up is critical!

  7. A lot of well meaning advice is given after orthopaedic fractures in older people.

Non weight bearing for a prolonged period can result in a person never walking again. Could we sometimes do better?

  8. Excellent presentations and panel session yesterday morning from Pride Ortho at #COAMeeting. Inspirational to see this gaining traction in the field but still a clear-eyed look at how far we have to go to build an inclusive orthopaedic community.

  9. Hard surgeries result in hard clinics and vice versa.

Even so, slowing down and giving each patient the time they deserve makes it worth it.
