  1. And after some additional shaping, it looks even more like the real thing (as informed by current scientific knowledge).

  2. Did Spinosaurus swim? Did it dive? This model adapts the latest scientific knowledge and depicts it as an agile and slim fish-eating predator.

Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus, designed by Yery J. Astroña, folded by me from a 50-ish cm square of banana paper.

  3. After a rather long hiatus I managed to add another pair to my series of simple/complex origami models.

Folding the simple one was at least one nice thing I could do today after having spent most of the day in bed coping with the side effects of a vaccination.

Designers: unknown (for the simple one), Robert J. Lang. Folded from a 10 cm square of tissue foil and a 32 cm square of single mulberry tissue.

  4. It’s become a cherished tradition: I use an animal I encountered on vacation as the inspiration for my next origami model. The scorpion we found under our tent was black as well, though quite a bit smaller than this one.

Scorpion, designed by Robert Lang, folded by me from a 32 cm square of mulberry tissue paper.

  5. Do any of the origamists on here have copies of Shuzo Fujimoto's book 'Twist Folds'? (ねじり折り)
    ISBN 9784416312001

This book was published in Japan by Tomoko Fuse and others, with clearer fold patterns than his self-published works.

I'd really like instructions for 'Candy'

I have what is available (Public Domain): archive.org/search?query=creat

  8. There would be so many puns with this model but I am resisting the temptation.

Not sure if I’ll egret it.

  9. Three horses.

One great thing about #origami is that complexity is not a measure of beauty. Each of these models, as different as they are, is a masterpiece.

Designs by Jeong Jae Il, Hideo Komatsu and Oriol Esteve.

Folded by me from uncut squares of paper.

  10. Never too many horses in the #yearofthehorse

Designed by Jeong Jae Il, folded by me from a 50 cm square of Biotope paper.

With a helpful correction from a fediverse friend with a keen eye. Thank you, @sudelsurium!

  11. Have I ever published decent photos of this bear? I think I haven’t, so here you are.

Grizzly bear, designed by Shuki Kato, folded by me from a 35 cm square of Grainy paper.

  12. It’s the #yearofthehorse, and therefore a good time to revisit a design that I had folded before. This is my second rendition of Jeong Jae Il’s beautiful origami horse.

  14. Improved the head. It's way bigger now without shrinking the other parts. Now I have the opportunity to fine tune the paws.

  15. The nine models liked most of the rather many that I folded this year.

    Apatosaurus, Shuki Kato

    Phoenix 3.5, Satoshi Kamiya

    Koala, Gen Hagiwara

    Classical Cicada, Robert Lang

    African Elephant, Shuki Kato

    Horse, Jeong Jae Il

    Blakiston’s Fish Owl, Kyohei Katsuta

    Little Bird, Satoshi Kamiya

    Grizzly Bear, Shuki Kato

  17. Origami pairs: Bears

Although Montroll’s bear is only 20 steps I found that model rather hard to get right and I am not sure I did. There are many judgement folds that determine the proportions.

Kato’s Grizzly, on the other hand, will look exactly right if you can fold it at all. It isn’t even the most difficult model to fold, I’d give it four out of five stars for complexity.

  18. I am so looking forward to hearing the sound of cicadas again. Alas, I’ll have to wait at least until September.

Robert Lang’s Classical Cicada opus 676, folded from a 30 cm square of double tissue.

  24. Origami pairs: First fourteen.

This has been a fun project so far, and I am making a break here, since May will be occupied by other stuff to do.

This will continue, but not right now.

  27. Origami pairs: Little birds (traditional, Satoshi Kamiya)

I still had Kamiya’s bird stored in a box, so less waiting time for my next pair of simple / complex origami.

  28. Origami pairs: Bald eagle (Quentin Trollip / John Montroll)

This is the last of my pairs where I had the complex model already folded. The next will have to wait until I have chosen a new complex model and folded it.
