  3. In regards to #LibreOffice collaborative features in Writer and Calc, has anyone actually implemented this on an #organizational level?

    What are the limitations? What's lacking? What have they gotten wrong, what have they gotten right? Is it easy to use? Is it easy to implement?

    I'm looking to see what's the best way of setting up a #DataCooperative and I want it to be comparable to #Office365 or #GSuite, because people have gotten used to it. The real-time aspect is key.

    It's a matter of #military #security to have a #network that has redundancy upon redundancy in order to thwart takeovers.

    It should even go so far as your local neighborhood being it's own #ISP, that you and your neighbors can expand the capacity at will.

    The #internet has become ubiquitous with #freedomofspeech and #organizational #power. Why limit it?

    So like, the main villian in the rogues-gallery of spies and criminals is handling money for the KGB (in the movie it's a financial firm involved in terrorism under the table), and after James Bond takes all his money in a Poker game (betting NATO money), he has him in a cell and is torturing him, but JB keeps laughing because "you're going to die." So then the Soviet spy (another agent from the finance company) walks in and he's like, "hang on, I just need to torture him more and I'll have the money." and the spy is like "Sorry, we don't care about the money, we care about our operation." and kills him... then leaves James Bond alive to escape.

    This is Organizational Thinking in action.

  10. So next time you're stuck doing something that feels wrong and inefficient, don't be afraid to ask "why do we do it this way?". Then go find Kathy and offer to HELP her learn the new reports.

    As I approach my 50s, there's more and more I find myself stuck in the same routine because its *comfortable*. its a safe zone. Stepping outside the box is uncomfortable. its *work*. I get it. So empathize with the reluctance.

Eventually you drill down far enough and it comes down to "Because Kathy didn't know how to use the new reports and wanted to stick with the 20 yr old Excel spreadsheet with the VBA macros noone knows how to maintain!". Sure enough, when we sidestep the constraints and try the new way, its 1000% better.

  12. My organization suffers a lot of BTTWWHADI (But Thats The Way We've Always Done It!). Many pain points were due to long tenured "lifers" who have since retired, yet we're still stuck in the same ruts. Management consultants parachute in and ask "that seems... inefficient. Why do you do it that way?" and our response is always "well, because of <constraint>". "Well, why do you impose that constraint" "well, because of <other constraint>"..

  14. #HarvardBusinessReview research reveals that the top reasons for #collaboration failure include #silos (67%), no collaborative #vision from leaders (32%), and #seniormanagers not wanting to give up control (32%).

    Most of an #enterprise’s #competitivevalue is created and delivered at #organizational “seams,” where functions come together to develop #innovation capability. That requires #leaders of those functions to collaborate across the silos to deliver that #value.

  18. Working the people (as in #ChangeManagement as usual) is inhumane and authoritarian. Plus: it doesn't work: Because you can't just work people like dough.

    Working the System (especially if done #together) is democratic, humanistic & it works. Working the System produces impact super-fast, actually: People are so intelligent, they adapt their behavior to existing contexts.
