And why might #Dolphins and #Orcas be pissed off? Might have something to do with rising ocean temperatures (affecting their food sources) and all the CRAP we've been dumping into the world's oceans!
Signs of the human era, from #nuclear fallout to #microplastics
AFP, 10/07/2023
Paris (AFP) – As scientists make the case that humans have fundamentally transformed the planet enough to warrant our own geological epoch, another question arises: is there anything left untouched by humanity's presence?
"Soaring #greenhouse gases, ubiquitous microplastics, pervasive "forever chemicals", the global upheaval of animals, even old #MobilePhones and chicken bones -- all have been put forward as evidence that the world entered the #Anthropocene, or era of humans, in the mid-20th century.
"Jan Zalasiewicz, a British #geologist who chaired the Anthropocene Working Group for over a decade, paused for a moment when asked if there was anywhere on Earth that lacked signs of human influence.
"'It's hard to think of a more remote place' than the #PineIslandGlacier in #Antarctica, Zalasiewicz told AFP.
"Yet when scientists drilled deep below the glacier's ice a few years ago, they found traces of #plutonium.
"It was lingering fallout from nuclear weapon tests that began in 1945, leaving behind a #radioactive presence unlike anything before.
"Zalasiewicz said these radionuclides represented perhaps 'the sharpest signal' to mark the start of the Anthropocene epoch 70 years ago."

Japanese beach closed following dolphin attack [video]
"Suishohama Beach in #Mihama, #Japan, has closed from July 21 following a series of dolphin attacks on beachgoers earlier in the week. Curious footage from July 17 captured a bottlenose dolphin appearing to playfully nip a lone swimmer. But the clip has taken a sinister turn after four swimmers were injured the day before in dolphin attacks."

"You have sеt something in motion
Much greater than you've ever known
Standing there in all your grand naivety
About to reap what you have sown
Time will feed upon your weaknesses
And soon you'll lose the will to care
When you return to the place that you call home
We will be thereOn hands and knees, we crawl
You cannot stop us all
Our blood will stay
We will not go awayOn hands and knees, we crawl
You cannot stop us all
Our blood, our grace
Will never leave this place..."- My Violent Heart (pirate robot midget), Nine Inch Nails, Track 3 on Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D., 2007

Why killer whales won’t stop ramming boats in Spain
June 29, 2023
"'In 2020, the attack lasted almost an hour and was not as organized,' Kriz said. 'This time we could hear them communicating under the boat. It only took about 10 to 15 minutes.'
"There are clues suggesting that White Gladis [a certain whale] may have become entangled in fishing gear — a common threat to orcas — either as an accident or during an illegal fishing attempt, López Fernandez said: Many boats use fishing lines at the stern, and this seems to be one of the motivating factors for orcas to approach and investigate the rear of the craft. Earlier this year, another killer whale in the area was spotted with a fishing line on its body, he said.
"Since White Gladis’ supposed traumatic event, two adult killer whales may have started teaching juveniles how to approach boats to disable their rudders — which seems to track with Kriz’s observation about the evolution of the behavior between his two encounters.
"'Orcas are a very #matriarchal society and all juveniles look up to these very important females in the pod; the juveniles are copying their behaviors because they believe that if these very important individuals do something, they have to do the same to ensure their own survival,' González said.
"Worryingly, the interactions seem to be on the rise: “From January to May, we’ve seen an increase compared to last year, but it’s too early to say if this will be maintained throughout the rest of the season,' López Fernandez said."

"#Orca rams into #yacht off #Shetland in first such incident in northern waters - #Cetacean
exhibits same behaviour towards vessel in North Sea that has been seen in Iberian orca population
"Most surprising is the fact that this learned behaviour should have appeared nearly 3,000 miles (4,800km) from Gibraltar. Dr Conor Ryan, a scientific adviser to the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust, who has studied orca pods off the Scottish coast, said: “I’d be reluctant to say it cannot be learned from [the southern population]. It’s possible that this ‘fad’ is leapfrogging through the various pods/communities.”#Cetaceans #Humans #Earth #Biosphere #Scotland #UK #Orca #Orcas #Revenge #TeamOrca #Orcanize #OrcaRevolution

Killer Whales (#Orcas), talking amongst themselves: "Humans are not our friends!"
Study: Humans cause more orca deaths than previously understood
By Liam Moriarty, Dec. 29, 2020Researchers have long known that dwindling #salmon runs, #WaterPollution and #loud underwater boat #noise are major contributors to the reduced number of orcas along the West Coast.
"Now, a ten-year study of killer whale carcasses found washed up on beaches in the eastern Pacific Ocean has found a significant number who died from more direct human causes.
"'This study was really a decade-long look at what do killer whales die from, from California to Alaska all the way out to Hawaii,' said Joe Gaydos, a wildlife veterinarian with UC Davis who participated in the study."

Killer whales spotted in rare sightings off #NewEngland, #California coasts
"Killer whales, also known as orcas, are more commonly seen in areas surrounding the Arctic ice-edge and the Caribbean, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The last sighting of an orca in Massachusetts waters was in May 2022."
