Ich hab jetzt seit ca drei Wochen zusätzlich Orbot auf dem Handy installiert, und dabei nur den "Freundlichkeitsmodus" aktiviert, was in etwa der Funktionalität von Snowflake entspricht.
Die Anzahl der Verbindungen in der dritten Woche ist ca ein Sechstel derer in den beiden Wochen davor. Der Zeitpunkt entspricht ziemlich genau der Sperre des Iranischen Internets. 😬
Auf PC/Laptop hab ich überhaupt nur mehr 1-2 Verbindungen pro Tag. 😟

The second easy way to help is installing the #orbot app on a mobile device, preferably a tablet with constant WIFI connection. On smartphones battery drain can be high and you need a plan with unlimited data. Though Orbot is mainly used to pass all the device's traffic to the TOR Network via a VPN, we ignore this function for our purposes and only activate the "Kindness" mode. Then our device can offer a #snowflake proxy to more users than the browser add-on and it can do it 24/7. 2/2 #tor

In a way, like passwordless root in QubesOS. Some good customizations can be made in Dom0, though, unlike GrapheneOS.

If it's easier, why isn't it as successful and used by the military etc? You seem to have dismissed video calls etc too. You could argue against that functionality for certain use cases, but it's become a core part of secure messaging over time. Maybe they just have different audiences.
I kind of agree on Moxie's reliance on Intel SGX though. Even at its inception it worried me. But it's not part of the core E2EE protocol so could potentially be replaced.

If it's easier, why isn't it as successful and used by the military etc? You seem to have dismissed video calls etc too. You could argue against that functionality for certain use cases, but it's become a core part of secure messaging over time. Maybe they just have different audiences.

Esses dias eu fiz um #toot sobre alguns motivos o por que eu não uso exclusivamente o #XMPP. Mas hoje vou comentar alguns motivos aos quais me fazem querer usar exclusivamente o XMPP.
* É Livre, só isso seria o motivo suficiente para usar.
* É leve, usei por muitas horas e consome muito pouco de bateria ( usei o #Conversations e o #Quicksy)
* Tem muitos grupos públicos em pt-br e o pessoal é bem legal.
* Pode usar com Tor ( usei pelo #orbot) no android.

Btw, is anyone running #Snowflake?
Access to the #tor network is even more crucial and gives access to Signal and most of the free web.
Just install the #Firefox #Webextension and make sure WebRTC is enabled (if your browser supports videocalls, it will be enabled).

You can also use #Orbot and instead of enabling a Tor Entry- or Middle-Node, setup a Snowflake Proxy ("Friendly mode"). Proxies are really only used by censored people, so dont fear abuse.

Earlier this month my phone running #orbot with #kindnessmode enabled was used as a #snowflakeproxy over 200 times per night several nights in a row. It lasted for less than a week. Now it's back to about 3-10 per night as usual. Does anybody know what caused this massive spike? I only run it on Wi-Fi and primarily when I sleep at home. #tor #snowflake #proxy
