  1. Get ready add to the phrase "cosmic real estate" to your vocabulary!

China launches a new tactic to take on SpaceLink - orbital spectrum squatting - by filing reservations for 244,000 LEO orbital slots with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

In doing this, China effectively gains legal priority over those specific radio frequencies and orbital paths - potentially blocking competitors' (SpaceX) LEO deployment plans.

    He who owns the most cosmic real estate has an advantage! satnews.com/2026/06/15/orbital #Space #China #SpaceX #LEO #ITU #Satelittes #OrbitalDataCenter #Orbits

  2. Interesting comparison ... the total cost to deploy a 1 GW data center in space vs. ground based. Satellite based ~ $51B, including launch and five years of operational expenses. Ground based ~ $16B over the same period.

Note: Satellite based #'s assumes leveraging multi-purpose space craft aka outfitting Starlink craft with space hardened ASICs/GPUs vs. launching dedicated data center satellites. spectrum.ieee.org/orbital-data #Satellites #DataCenters #Space #Orbit #OrbitalDataCenter #Power #SolarPower #SpaceCraft

  3. RE: mastodon.social/@sundogplanets

I submitted my comments against the Reflect Orbital and SpaceX plans! It always takes a little while to write letters, but the instructions for submitting are very good (and needed). It's terrible to think about losing the night sky. It felt good to do something about it.

  4. Amazing how a demonstrably bad idea can still pull in massive funding.

SpaceX's orbiting data center is one such idea. Space isn't "cold", it's a vacuum, the same thing that makes high-performance insulated tumblers work so well. In orbit, shedding heat will be a bigger problem than any faced on earth, such as supplying electricity.
