This is basically a monopoly. My parents are stuck with only one ISP. Ever since Altice took over Optimum, the service basically turn to crap and price keeps going up. They also have been buying up other smaller cable companies too.
Yes, they are the ones that are discontinuing Cablecards, thus making my DVR recording setup obsolete. Despite being in North Caldwell, which is a upper income neighborhood, but yet only one choice for wired internet? Verizon no longer services that area since the wires are underground, thus they don’t feel like putting new wires underground.
Maybe it’s time for towns to build municipal fiber, so that these monopolies are forced to compete for business.

There’s a credit of $109.17 on my account after I disconnected service.
I got a check from Optimum for $9.17
Where’s the other $100?
Customer service evidently waited for me to call about it and will refund it to my card used for payment (which is old and defunct).
I asked for a $100 check instead and I was told (wait for it)…
“We only send checks for amounts up to $14.99 or over $299.”
What kind of bizarre policy is that??
