It has been 0 days since SI units and binary units made me think a storage device had more capacity than it really did.
In this case a BD-R DL disc that supposedly has "50GB" really has 46.6GiB.

Replacement Playstation optical drive from TotalConsole works very well -- this was being discussed as a drop-in-and-go replacement (not tuning) and it's worked with everything I've tested it with so far except one CD-R that I burned about 18 years ago.
My original Playstation from 1996, which I mod-chipped and in which I recently replaced the PSU (and optical drive).

About to take another stab at replacing the laser unit on my original PlayStation from 1996. This time, the mechanism is pre-tuned and pre-aligned. It cost twice as much, but apparently it should be drop in and go.

I still dedicate a SATA port on my motherboard for my CD/DVD drive cos optical discs were part of my formative years. I just like hearing the discs whirr when I do r/w operations on it.
Plus I can do "eject" and "eject -t" on the terminal with this drive. I mean it's a no-name CD/DVD drive but it's just so cool when I can literally command the drive with the terminal lol
