Okay, in a convoluted series of rabbit holing events, I ended up buying the #opsix native plug-in thanks to my infatuation with this synth 😅😭
Hey, it was just $50 since I own the actual opsix and I figured the convenience of having it as a plug-in was worth that, easy, especially since I can program the patches on the EXCELLENT hardware interface and then port them easily to the plug-in.

Was feeling defeated and shitty tonight so I decided to fire up the #Korg #opsix for a quick play around before making dinner. For reasons, some good and some kinda dumb, I actually haven't used it in like a year... And goddamn was that a mistake.
I *LOVE* that synth.
It's the best FM synth I've ever played, and I love FM synthesis. It's also way, way more than that, but even if you never touch any of the "extra" stuff, I cannot recommend it highly enough if you're in the market for a synth.

#LoopShare is a handy hashtag to search musical ideas born of a loop (or loops) with little/no serious development.
This little gem began life as a 4-bar loop performed on the #CS-30 and blossomed into a simple Giallo love scene theme. (sense of ironic humor required)

Look at that, a new version of the opsix! So I guess it isn't discontinued! Kind of great news all around: new one doesn't have anything that makes me want to upgrade, but it's available for people who missed out on the original (which is maybe available again? or will be?) and in high-quality keyboard form for those who care about that (I actually prefer fewer keys/smaller size). Anyway, here's a BoBeats vid about it:

The crazy synth pad/vocalesque thing that dominates the back half of the song is also Hydra. #MiniBrute2s provides some analog plucks throughout. Lots and lots of #Foley in this one, most of it stuff I created myself, including a rainstorm I recorded by sticking my #Zoom recorder in the window well.

The ascending melodic line is #Korg #opsix; #ASM #Hydrasynth is playing a string machine #patch I made for a patch challenge last year; ##Arturia #MicroFreak bassline. This one didn't get much added in the #production phase. Just the #voice #samples and a #DrumLoop in the last section.

Drums are from the #TR6s and all the fills use the weird fill stutter effect that it does, which I thought sounded delightfully inhuman/robotic. Lead is a #Arturia #MicroFreak sound I made, as is the robotic voice saying "machine" in various different ways in the second half. Fake guitar in the first half is an #opsix patch and a #Hydrasynth patch layered together.

That was roughly where I left the song in the #recording phase. When I came back to it in #production, I added #KawaiK4r (some harmonic support for the chords) and #Roland #AlphaJuno (MKS-50) to it (lovely analog choir, recorded hot/distorted)

One early decision here set the course of much of the record. Coincidentally, I wanted to use a second sound from the #opsix while I was in the pretty early stages of the process. To accommodate this, I decided to just record the part from the opsix and chop it up as a #sample. To record it, I decided to use the #ReelToReel #TapeRecorder and, on the spot, decided I'd record *all* the main parts through the same machine.
