    ——-
went to three, today, and could not find one saucepan waiting for a chance to be sacrificed on the altar of fren’s cooking 🙁
is it possible she has broken the market?
    ———
    should they be “for-profit”?
    personally, I don’t care.

the good thing about op shops is that a lot of stuff that would otherwise become landfill is re-purposed by second hand trading (without the hassle of second hand trading regulations)

when making donations of really good stuff, I go out of my way to give it to an op shop I know does good and generous works
    — and that’s only if I cannot simply give stuff to people I know who will use it

if there is a choice between landfill and letting someone profit from stuff i don’t want, I will avoid the landfill option.
I recycle all my colesworth home delivery paper bags with op shops.
Not clothing though — see my pinned article about the mountains of discarded western clothes in African landfill. I rarely buy clothes from op shops, but don’t really “need” much.

I have more dislike of Salvos than savers — at the giving end, they are not nice to anyone. At the trading end, they exploit the compulsory labour of people who rely on sennalink payments. I have known some people trapped in salvo-land to pick through donations, taking good stuff and selling it on-line anyway. And what is left is often overpriced (tho the salvos in Hastings seems fair)

Epilepsy op shops I think — don’t quote me — are private for-profit but pay commission for using the charity label

  5. One of my local #opshops has a daily visitor in the form of Zee the #calico cat.
The shop decided to give Zee a proper chair and nameplate.

  7. If you have useful stuff you don't need, in reasonable condition, don't board it or throw it in a hole (or on a fire). Donate it to an op shop!

  9. Op shop scores today: another Coen Brothers movie for the collection, and four CDs. $10 🙂

    · Enya – The Celts
    · Enya – Amarantine
    · Enya – The memory of trees
    · Deep Forest (don't ask me the name!)

Coen Brothers' The Ladykillers isn't a patch on the 1955 original, which frankly cannot be bettered. But it's still a good movie and it brings me closer to completing the set!

Biya hooded #cardigan from a #friend ~6 years ago; Temt t-shirt from #BuyNothing; bangles, rhinoceros #earrings, brown diamanté crystal 💍 ring, tooled leather 👜 bag (15 years ago!) and Asos boots #thrifted from #OpShops here and there; wooden pendant #necklace from #Docklands in #Melbourne 9 years ago; and handkerchief hemline reversible wrap #skirt from a #family member as a (birthday or Xmas) #gift 12-13 years ago.

  12. Another Sunday #flatlay #celebrating confluence, #eclecticism and #reuse:

  13. @feather1952 I'm so glad to hear about the sensible pricing of #Anko. It's a problem at other #OpShops.

  14. I took these before remembering Friday's post. Oops 🤦‍♀️

#Jeans $5 from Kmart clearance; #shoes and T-shirt (and bra, not pictured) free from #BuyNothing; jade #pikorua and jacket #thrifted from different #OpShops; bag and boulder opal #earrings were gifts from Mum; #silver and mother-of-pearl ring #SecondHand from a little shop in the New Zealand town of Russell; silver Eye Of #Ra necklace from ages ago; beaded #bracelet #handmade by moi; and, of course, the blasted Shein black #flower hair clip.
