The British Army invaded No-Go areas sending 21,000 soldiers, with tanks and bulldozers, into working-class nationalist areas across the north including Free Derry. The IRA, aware that they weren’t ready for a pitched battle with such a force, had left the No Go areas, so no real resistance was offered. 1/2
