If you use #OpenTripPlanner #Valhalla or #MOTIS for routing on top of #OpenTripPlanner, you are likely regularly downloading "*.osm.pdf" files.
Some of these are huge and slow to download. But there's a way to download 99% less data, speeding up the process a lot.
Add pyosmium 4 to your workflow and it can patch these files instead of doing full re-downloads. Works great with GeoFabrik!

MOTIS is a routing engine on top of #OpenStreetMap that I believe can handle transit, bike share, real-time feeds as well as walk/bike/driving directions. It competes with projects like #OpenTripPlanner and #Valhalla. https://mastodon.social/@felixguendling/114881454870500336

New MARTA trip planner and tracker is live at https://tracker.itsmarta.com! It is based on OpenTripPlanner.

@LinusWeidickFrische I should! It looks like they have been drawn, but they are old routes from a couple years ago.
So first step would be to give #OpenStreetMap an up to date version of the bus routes.
But to my understanding OSM is not interested in timetable information, which I'd need for a Google Maps replacement. Which is where the second step of having a #OpenTripPlanner server comes in.
-
Earlier this year I had a medical incident resulting in me being prohibited from driving for 6 months.
The bus routes in #Tórshavn are only on Google Maps (which I'd rather not use), but I know the municipality has #GTFS files of their routes.
So I am now thinking about asking if I can get them, and then spinning up a #OpenTripPlanner server...
My energy is probably better spent elsewhere, but the techy in me wants to give it a try lmao

@awinkler for which region? For car only routing there exist several (#graphhopper, #osrm, #valhalla ), for transit routing, data availability is still an issue. The #transitous project is the largest free instance I‘m aware of. For smaller regions, you might self-host e.g. an #OpenTripPlanner or #MOTIS instance https://transitous.org/

@calispera It's not impossible and #OpenTripPlanner at least has been able to do this for a long time. I don't know which other routing engines support area routing though.

Heute Montag 14:00:

4/ 🔍 Once installed, rJavaEnv::java_check_version_cmd() Checks the installed Java version using terminal commands. For packages like #OpenTripPlanner, that performs Java calls using command line.

@lnwirz @jon @jakob Nearly 10 years ago I mapped all these on #OpenHistoricalMap : think they were lost when the server went belly up, but might just still have the data. The idea was to take the 1907 timetable and convert it to GTFS, then do multimodal routing using #OpenTripPlanner.

Highlights of the ATL board meeting this morning:
- They will explore #ZeroEmission buses.
- ATL RIDES app gets positive reviews and board praise for multimodal trip planning and fare prediction w/ #OpenTripPlanner. 190 users planned 5k trips. Final marketing kit TBA after active Fall campaign.
- #Cumberland #AutonomousVehicles: The board was *very* hyped. Pilot continues until March.
- #GwinnettCounty TSPLOST and Douglas #transit plans seem ambitious (e.g. #atlanta Airport connections). -

Thanks to @lehrenfried for merging a change to #OpenTripPlanner that sets a default time zone!
https://github.com/opentripplanner/OpenTripPlanner/pull/4652#pullrequestreview-1826980772
It's useful if you just want to test walk or bike directions and don't load a GTFS feed, which is one way a time zone gets set.

Resurrecting an old project...

🧵 So, I've successfully built a very small #OpenTripPlanner graph after using the #JOSM plugin to export a map. This is my "control" graph for current conditions. Later, I can modify the map in #JOSM, and build a "proposed" graph to generate isochrones for each. Context: https://urbanists.social/@markstos/111750037677375904 Thanks to @lehrenfried for taking a look at my OTP bug report.

For MLK day here in the US, I'm going to be doing some equity #mapping work with #OpenStreetMap #OpenTripPlanner #QGIS and mabe some #Nodejs and posting some updates throughout the day in this thread. If that's your jam, follow along.
Otherwise, you may want to mute me for 24 hours, because this may get noisy. 🧵
