Hace unas semanas por fin pude mergear Trails Hito en #fdroid 🎉. Es un visor de rutas de #senderismo que permite cargar archivos GPX, TCX y KML. No es un repositorio de rutas, yo la uso en conjunto con wikiloc, compartiendo desde allí las rutas.

Consume poca batería, puede actualizar tu ubicación bajo demanda o de manera continua si se le indica.
Está completamente desacoplada de Google Play Services, la ubicación puede tardar un poco más, ya que depende enteramente del GPS, pero te aseguras de que ninguna información sale de tu dispositivo y en ningún momento se asocia a tu usuario. Totalmente orientada a la privacidad. Usa #osmdroid junto a OpenTopoMap como alternativa libre a #googlemaps

But I'm such a fan of this map style that I couldn't let it go and started a reviving/continuation plan for it.
Stefan (maintainer of OTM's server) is working on a vector version, but until then we have something to cling to !

Oh boo, Canada has grown too big for my watch!
My Garmin watch allows (custom) updated maps, and I use OpenTopo's maps (https://github.com/der-stefan/OpenTopoMap).
The map for Canada now takes up more than 4GB, which the watch's file system doesn't support.
So instead of using pregenerated ones, I now need to convert OpenStreetMap maps to Garmin maps myself, for my trip to ConFoo which only includes Québec.
Luckily the map data and tools are all available.

Like offline maps?I made trails maps that cover #VenturaCounty CA. The maps can be installed and used offline with the GeoJPG web app that I developed.
GeoJPG has NO ads, NO tracking, NO signup and NO fees.

I developed the GeoJPG web app as a public service and part of my way to ‘pay it forward’. This is not a commercial product of any nature. I am making this freely available simply because I can.
GeoJPG is not available in any app store. To install it for offline use, open the web app link, tap “Yes” and then carefully follow the instructions you will see.

Final testing before launching GeoJPG version 2. Soon everyone will be able to make their own custom maps that work offline and have NO ads, NO tracking, No signup and NO fees.
A re-done website will include links to some georeferenced JPG maps I made and put on Google Drive for anyone to use. These maps cover much of the Washington State Cascades and all of Ventura County California.
Here are GISsurfer links that display 2 of the Ventura maps. If you open a map and zoom out eventually you will see the edge of the georeferenced JPG.

Yesterday I used GISsurfer’s ‘screenshot’ feature and made georeferenced JPG maps for some areas of the #SanJuanIslands in the #PNW. Those JPGs are online via Google Drive. Use GISsurfer screenshot mode to make your own custom maps. Currently maps have to be online so GeoJPG can install them for offline use. Use Google Drive (free) to put your maps online.

Got trails?
Here is a comparison of Open Topo Map with and without GIS data.
This first map shows the #OpenTopoMap (OTM) basemap. Notice that if you zoom out the trails (fine dotted lines) disappear and various lake names are missing.

You can zoom out several steps and the green/black trail data from a U.S. Forest Service GIS server is still visible. Of course the OTM trail data is more current since it is based on Open Street Map data.
