  1. @SuperDicq @Vivaldi
“I really hope they change this policy and publish the full source code at some point. Because if they do Vivaldi can actually start hanging out with the big boys like Firefox or Chromium.”

#Vivaldi's answer on this: “But, the way we see it, Vivaldi is more than just its code. It is our brand, with associated trademarks we have to protect. This means any fork needs to be branded as a different product.

And this new product then would become an immediate competitor without putting any significant technical work to reach that status.”

“a very small, but important part of the codebase.”
That's the whole point of it

And yes, this can be done very easily, but, as they said, there's no coming-back. They don't only have to think about the ease of doing something, but also about it's (long-term) consequences.

  5. Calling FOSS developers of any size projects. #opensource #opensourceproject #foss

How do you feel about how foss maintainers are compensated?
In your foss project are you well compensated?
Do you feel "exploited" for your work (by companies, or individuals)?
Do you work part-time or full-time on a foss project? (important for the next question)
Do you receive enough financial compensation to survive on?

Basically I am working on a blog post where I want to write about the current financial situation of the FOSS community, many criticize FOSS for it being exploitative in which companies take FOSS work and don't give any financial compensation to the maintainer, or how maintainers are overworked or work too much without receiving enough financial aid to sustain themselves.

So any type of comment would really help. You can reply here, reply privately or message me on matrix (samuelhautamaki:envs.net) or on email ([email protected]).
