  6. Exciting news, I got a new #blog 🎉

It's about #BSD! Already having a Linux blog, so time for one dedicated to the BSDs 😍

I can't share the link yet... One reason is that I'm careful to share it on Mastodon, until it is indexed by the search engines. Had issues with another blog and I have a feeling it was due to the decentralized nature of Mastodon that it got a penalty.

First long-read article is about setting up your own mail server with #OpenBSD and #OpenSMTPD. 1/*

  11. Now working on the #OpenBSD article to set up your own mail server with #OpenSMTPD, #Dovecot, #Rspamd including tips for #unwind and #unbound.

The good: I already have my text in Dutch
The bad: translating takes a while
The ugly: I want to complete it today...

  21. @tgeusch I switched from #postfix to #openSMTPD about a year ago, and from #mailman3 to #mlmmj . Both are less flexible (powerful), but the simplified configuration is definitely worth it for my relatively simple needs. I kept #rspamd for DKIM and filtering, and it all works quite well.

  26. Question for those who #selfhost their email servers - has anyone migrated from #postfix to #openSMTPD?

I've been running Postfix for more than a decade on the primary MX, but it frankly feels overkill for a relatively simple multi-domain setup for essentially just hosting my family's email.

I'm already running openSMTPD on #OpenBSD on my secondary, so I've got some limited experience with it.

Nothing against Postfix, it just feels that with my setup I'm using an 18 wheeler to transport a case of beer...

  36. The single downside of running a mailserver with a modern CPU and NVMe storage is that sysupgrade blasts through it so fast that it does not allow to fetch a coffee (or whatever).

2m16s from running sysupgrade -s to it being back in production.

What a complete and utter madness.

This helps us to keep our clients safer. OpenSMTPD was already way ahead when it comes to exploit mitigations - especially on OpenBSD. The developers have taken it even further with splitting the daemon into six parts which all are now randomly relinked on reboot.

If that is too technical, the short version is: the mailboxes of our clients are now even better protected against baddies :)
