#openplaques — Public Fediverse posts

'Pull' connection from #openstreetmap historic=plaque + openplaques:id=n has been added. This means that the location of an OSM plaque is used in #openplaques as _the_ most accurate geocoding available (others being Flickr/Geography/Commons photographer locations/manually seen in StreetView)

I'm sometimes asked, "why don't you just put everything in OSM/Wikidata?" but that misses the point that #OpenPlaques is all about degrees of geolocation accuracy, ranging from the rumour of a plaque in a forum, a photo on Flickr or Geograph, to pinpoint accuracy in OSM.

I’ve been playing a fun game of ‘turn the dots green’ in #OpenStreetMap. The dots in question are memorials, mostly plaques, where red dots are not marked as having an #OpenPlaques ID and green ones have OpenPlaques and wikidata IDs. Pink and cyan are partially populated with IDs. This work makes memorials more discoverable in OSM and located more accurately in OpenPlaques. Brighton is now covered well, so I’m starting on Bristol - oh, so much red!

Noticed in Oakham, a 'fake' blue plaque on the side of Oakham Tyres on Station Approach. Designed to look like an official blue plaque, but recording the mundane refurbishment of a completely indistinguished building, which is not much more than a shed.

Would it be appropriate to map this on #OpenStreetMap like a conventional plaque relating to something of historical interest?

@richlv @vespucci_editor For plaques I put the full inscription in on #OpenPlaques and a curtailed version in #OpenStreetMap. I suppose you could do the same with @openbenches.org or #WikiData
