Spannend, ich weiß jetzt, warum ich vor wenigen Wochen nicht in die #OpenLibrary in #Kiel kam:

Es werden Benutzendenausweise mit besonderer Authentifizierung (RFID) benötigt, für eine stadtweite Austauschaktion fehlt der Stadt gerade das Geld – dehalb bekommen erstmal nur Nutzende vor Ort einen entsprechenden Ausweis.

Die Situation war in den Presseberichten nicht aufgetaucht. Well, shit.

Möglicher Plan für morgen: Mit dem Bus in die #OpenLibrary fahren (#Stadtteilbücherei #PriesFriedrichsort) und vielleicht noch kurz nach #Strande. Oder andersherum, das Wetter soll ab 14:00 etwas regnerisch werden. Bin gespannt, wie viele Leute vielleicht in der Bücherei da sind.  #Kiel

Geil, ab morgen wird die Stadtteilbücherei in Pries/Friedrichsort zu einer Open Library und ist dann an allen sieben Tagen der Woche von 7 bis 21 Uhr geöffnet. Zugang hat man in den Zeiten ohne Personal dann mit seinem Büchereiausweis. Ich hoffe sehr, dass es das bald auch in der Zentralbücherei gibt.

I finished both my current #audiobook ('Faithbreaker' by Hannah Kaner) and #ebook ('City of Bones' by Martha Wells) today and now I feel empty and lost. I think I'll go to bed without a new audio tonight.

The #koreader statstics are nice, but not really helpful for imports to #openlibrary or #bookwyrm. I guess I would have to combine them with my #calibre library for more information on the books themselves. Still, it's nice to have the data.
Next up: comparison of #libby and #goodreads exports to see how to adjust the first to look like the latter.

OK, if I want to import my reading statistics to #OpenLibrary, I need a CSV file in the #Goodreads export format. I don't have a Goodreads account, so can anyone tell me what an exported file from there looks like? I'm sure I'll be able to go from my #Libby and maybe #KOReader exports to that format (after all, ETL is a big part or my job), if only I knew what it's supposed to be.

Question to my fellow readers: I would love to use the Internet Archive free library for borrowing books, but reading them in a browser is impossible on an eReader. I cannot find any options for downloading, like it works with Libby or Onleihe. Apparently that's supposed to work. Maybe the books I tested where not available for downloading? But how do I find downloadable ebooks? Am I missing a filter or button or something?

Ever since my PhD contract has ended last month, I have been going through my personal project backlog, including this very Mastodon account and actually making progress on my personal website.

Yesterday, I was thinking what to do about my Goodreads account when I discovered @bookwyrm and by proxy @OpenLibrary and @inventaire ! Obviously, I am now on bookwyrm.social.

Because my Goodreads shelves are a mess, many of my books can't be imported automatically, including some japanese light novels and web serials. The latter, I've never really bothered to track outside of dedicated websites (novelupdates, ao3, fanfiction.net) because of how difficult it is.

Big question for people in the know and #librarians, is there a database of web serials or am I doomed to add my books manually (or programmatically)?

I might have said this earlier but worth repeating. DuckDB is freaking amazing! Today I worked on a 56G TSV file containing 55 million rows of JSON serialized documents (all of OpenLibrary editions).

I can query this file including filtering on nested JSON structures and most queries complete in a few dozen seconds worst case, but I can also create derived indexes to bring down query times to milliseconds.

All in memory on an M1 Mac with 64GB RAM.

Mi intención es usarlo como hasta ahora Goodreads, llevar un control de los libros que voy leyendo, de los libros que quiero leer, escribir alguna opinión de alguno que me haya gustado y leer las opiniones de los demás.
Doy por hecho que tendré que crear muchas fichas de libros sea donde sea. Pero cual sería el más similar? Creo que sería Bookwyrm por lo que he leído.

Aber ich bin unglaublich froh, dass wir jetzt die Option #24_7 haben. Natürlich wird während der #openlibrary Öffnungszeiten etwas „schiefgehen”. Aber das passiert auch, wenn wir vor Ort sind. While the technical issues I had with my #BookWyrm instance are now resolved, I did take the opportunity to experiment with #NeoDB .

And I must say, I _am_ impressed with how fast NeoDB is - and how quickly it gets media information from other platforms. With BookWyrm, much of the time I had to manually add new books to #OpenLibrary to get it into my lists. With NeoDB, the system _very_ quickly searches a multitude of sources, and almost always seems to find something within a few seconds.

If you haven't committed yourself to any specific platform, I recommend that you check it out.
