There's a lot going on in Chicago right now, including the No Kings protest which I plan to attend this weekend. But I would be remiss not to mention the annual Open House Chicago. Take a break and go see some amazing architecture.

Open House Chicago is happening this weekend! We've been going for over a decade, so at this point, we've seen most of the sites, sometimes multiple times, but we still found a few cool things! Today we went to Carl Schurz High School, Irving Park YMCA, Double Door, St. Thomas Canterbury Catholic Church, the Hatian American Museum of Chicago, Dank Haus, and Koval Distillery! @chiarchitecture #ohc2024 #openhousechicago #openhousechicago2024 #chicagoarchitecture

If you are headed to Chicago for Phish, and you like a little pre-show culture/ architecture, Saturday and Sunday are the same dates as the annual Open House Chicago. Completely free, a bunch of typically private buildings are open for public enjoyment/ access.
A very cool way to spend a morning/afternoon and check out some rare spaces without spending money.

The inside of the #HelmutJahn-designed State of Illinois building in Chicago, taken by me at #OpenHouseChicago in October 2022.
The James R. Thompson Center (originally the State of Illinois Center) is a postmodern-style civic building designed by architect #HelmutJahn, at 100 W. Randolph Street in #Chicago.
Google purchased the building in 2022 and expects to move in 2026 after two years and $280 million of renovations.
