@cf7 I gave opengist a whirl and was pleasently surprised that it allows sign-in via my also self-hosted ForgeJo instance.

Still not sure if I should give #opengist a try. Great for sharing snippets, but might be overkill.

For now, i'll try my luck with the Forgejo Wiki. Been working so far and it might be all I need.

New blog article

Jupyter notebooks support in OpenGist

I love #OpenGist as a self-hosted FOSS alternative to Github’s Gist service.

And I love #Jupyter notebooks because they are one of the simplest and most powerful tools to share code and data between scientists and engineers.

And I’ve always wondered why I couldn’t just navigate through a notebook on my OpenGist instance, or quickly share it with someone through a permalink, like I could do on cloud services like Gist or Nbviewer.

So in these days I’ve decided to take the matter in my own hands and prepare a PR that adds .ipynb support to OpenGist.

Feel free to give it a try (there are just so many combinations of cell types and syntax variants on Jupyter that it’s impossible to test all of them), and give it an upvote if you like it and want it merged!

1. Ability to add custom metadata
2. Home should point to All (existing) gists, not new gist
3. Better search, include description, url and any custom metadata in the search parameters and results.

Today, I deployed #OpenGist, an open source project that's similar to #GitHub Gists and with a UI similar to #Forgejo and #Gitea, and easily setup authentication through Forgejo. Very cool project!

Bonus round: nextcloud can be used as a #webdav endpoint so you can use it as the storage backend for #joplin and #obsidian note apps.

I am now self-hosting my own pastebin. I packaged Opengist in my Nix flake so you can try it out locally, or a NixOS module to run your own.
