I’m weirdly excited about Dolmenwood. Not that I know if I’ll ever run it. But it’s the sort of thing I’d like to make, taking an old school light game as a framework and building something interesting on top of it.

But I don’t know what project I’m most interested in.

I picked up the Old School Essentials boxed sets, and I’m kind of disappointed in the declared open content. Example, the only thing declared open content in the Advanced Players Guide is a list of secondary skills. Really, they couldn’t open elves or dwarves? They are some secret proprietary race?

It’s a fine enough system, but if I want to publish old school adventures I’ll look elsewhere. Or more likely use the 5e CC and call it good.

I looked at the “DC20” KS. It claims to be an evolution for ttrpgs, but I don’t see anything new. It uses action points and mana points, which seems to be the main “new” things when compared to D&D. Those have been around a while.

It looks crunchier than 5e, which is already too much for my tastes. YMMV, but it’s a pass for me.

They are using the ORC license, so there may be stuff worth hacking out of it.

Prepping for my Bloodwraith game tomorrow. I have a bunch of old Pathfinder item cards. I sleeve them for ease of re-use. Printed out what they do so once they identify an item I can have them slip it into the back of the sleeved card.

If you're a D&D fan (as I am), and you're frothing at the mouth over recent WoTC changes to the OGL, you REALLY need to listen to the latest episode of Opening Arguments where they cast Comprehend Lawyer (1a, self, 1hr) and break down the actual legalese in the changes to the OGL and contrast with claims in Linda Codega's article .

TL;DR - its a NOTHINGBURGER and Gizmodo's "leakspose" is a hit piece.
