  1. 🧵 Boundaries 2 of 2
When people ignore your communicated boundaries, the most important thing is how you respond to protect yourself.

It's not our job to teach them how to hear us. Instead of getting frustrated, I chose to simply withdraw my presence to protect my peace.

To anyone struggling with someone who just won't respect your 'stop,' know that it's okay to take that final step and remove yourself from the situation. Your peace matters!

Yesel Yoon Ph.D. has a fantastic piece on Psychology Today "Navigating Relationships: The Power of Healthy Boundaries
How to show up in your relationships without burning out."

    KEY POINTS
Boundary setting is a mutually beneficial and positive strategy to maintain healthy relationships.
It's important to question the assumptions we hold about what it means to be a "good" relationship partner.
Undermining your own needs in relationships can lead to resentment, burnout, and future conflict.

"And, we need more 'normal' people to join in. People who don't think in tech terms.

People who aren't as close as this to the people behind the projects. We need to listen to the community we want to bring to the #opensocialweb meet them where they are, and show them the way.

We can't keep shouting into this echo chamber." 🥰

Couldn't agree more. It is time to reach out to others 🚀

  6. My university has this excellent installation of a Matrix server open to every member or the university. It would allow me to chat with everybody on any other Matrix installation. Yet, I don't know who has that. Does this exist at other universities or companies?

  10. haters are going to hate, but news flash: hate will never win! we all have a voice! try to shake my base and you will see i am a stone in focus! truth is my shield and so sorry if some want to silence thoughts of others or mansplain what mastadon is and isn’t when not asked. mastadon should be an open communication. i have been here two years people and never ever deleted a post of mine! take a minute and review my old posts before you spout off false angery lies! facts! #OpenCommunication

  11. love how some instances delete any posts that are in any way contrary to their stance and disallow replies. we all have valid points to give. no one is right or wrong. truth is always somewhere in the middle. be strong enough in your beliefs to consider all sides. just a word to the wise! we are all important! #OpenCommunication

  12. I love working in .
I love the process of engaging with others to identify the best solutions for things whether they agree with me or not.
Similarly I love being able to have a voice in things that I wouldn't necessarily have on a closed project.
Anything that hampers is probably bad for open source.
Encourage lots of voices to contribute ... You don't have to please everyone, and you try not to take it personally if someone disagrees with you.

  13. @Edent +1 (actually a lot more) to this. As well as being a record for myself, it helps newbies get onboard without feeling intimidated y having to interact with "scary people". They can more easily experiment on their own.
Also if I've written doc on something and can point a newbie at it when they do all, I feel I've got something right (unless the doc was particularly hard to find!) so it's a win for everyone!
