  1. CODING FEDIVERSE

Niente server dedicati e niente requisiti “costosi”.

  3. Crowdfunding begins for Open Book Touch, an open source eReader

The Open Book Touch is an eBook reader with a small, front-lit E ink display, a microSD card slot for storage, and support for EPUB and TXT files. But what really makes it different from most eReaders is that it’s a fully open source device with unusual (for eReader) features like a user-replaceable battery.

Not only does it run open source firmware that can be inspected and modified, but […]

  6. For a short moment I thought that the #Openspace project (formerly know as #Okuna and #Openbook) has come back to life and is on a good path. The promise sounded good, integrated into the Fediverse, no tracking, ads, whatsoever. Right until I tried to open the link in the invitation mail and was greeted by uBlock which found a tracker in the link.
    *Sigh*
Nonetheless here is a shoutout to my friends from good ol' Okuna times ;-)

  10. The Art of Pivoting - Techniques for Intelligence Analysts to Discover New Relationships in a Complex World

This open source book explores how intelligence and cyber-security analysts can uncover hidden links between threat actor infrastructure and ongoing investigations by pivoting on both classic and unconventional indicators — many of which are often overlooked. The material is grounded in empirical, field-tested strategies used in cyber-security, digital forensics, cyber threat intelligence, and intelligence analysis more broadly.

I released the first version of this book following the @firstdotorg CTI Conference 2025 in Berlin, where the initial idea for the project emerged.

  12. Open Book Touch is a full-featured, open source eReader (crowdfunding soon)

Oddly Specific Objects founder Joey Castillo has designed a couple of interesting open hardware projects over the years. Those include the Sensor Watch and Sensor Watch Pro, which replace the PCB in a classic Casio wristwatch with a new board sporting a bunch of sensors that add functionality. But Castillo’s first attempt at making open source hardware was an effort to design an open source […]

There is still a lot to be done. But the idea behind it is to be an Open Book that introduces the language by solving small projects, in a similar style to the famous "Python Chrash Course" book from Eric Matthes.

I'm happy to announce "Introduction to Zig: a project-based book" as my next work, which is under active development 🥳🎉🎉🎉. This is a book 📖 about the Zig programming language, which is a modern, general-purpose, and low-level language 🧐.

Something very satisfying about a #diy case for a diy soldered board, with open hardware and open documents.

  26. Hello Fediverse! I would like to create an online #OpenAccess textbook, but I'm wondering which tools to use. My constraints are: transparent programming language (most coauthors are not expert programmers), direct export to #epub, and possibility to include audio and video. Any advices? From what I have read one option seems to be #GithubPages with #markdown? Does anybody has experience with that?
    Boosts welcome! #github #ebook #openbook

  28. i am pleased to inform you that i am back on my bullshit. #openbook

  29. Playing with the #OpenBook. The code is still alpha so there are still some bugs (right now the pagination files are a little wonky, but code is actively being developed so i'm sure a resolution will come soon.)

@joeycastillo thanks so much again - this has been a delightful project.

  30. Classic design error!

I forgot that I needed to mirror my design, since this would need to flip around to hold the Open Book.

Luckily I discovered the error mid print. I was able to take what had already been produced and test the size of the opening. It was a "perfect" fit, but in my design I have decided to add an optional battery case cover, so I've expanded the hole a little more.

    Attempt, learn, iterate. :)

What *did* print looks pretty darn good, I have to say.

  31. While I wait for the Raspberry Pi Pico to arrive, I'm designing a 3d printable case for the #OpenBook.

I'm trying to remind myself: start rough, start blocky, and THEN, once I'm sure that the board fits, streamline and complexify.
