  1. Because the Mediocre Host was so tardy in posting the #opcSpecialTheme yesterday, I’m sneaking in this photo from my second trip to #Montana in 2007.

This wasn’t my first time crossing into Montana on the trip—we had spent the prior several days in Glacier National Park—but it was the first time I had ever walked across a state border. This sign at Fort Union Trading Post NHS is located between the main parking lot in Montana and the fort in North Dakota.

  2. Some of the public lands I most treasure are those around the Lower Salt River, my summer refuge. Pretty incredible that these commons are all ours. #EarthDay #opcSpecialTheme 📸 #arizona #phoenix #river #nationalforest

  3. #EarthDay #opcSpecialTheme

It's Earth Day! Show us a (generally) natural place in the world that you're grateful you got to experience. Include the two hashtags above in your post.

  4. It took a bit of #Exercise to make it to the summit, but we were rewarded with great views, some fun kite flying, and a #summitbeer #opcSpecialTheme 📸 #Arizona #HighPoint #Mountains #summit #hiking

  5. #Oklahoma #opcSpecialTheme

Next week is National Oklahoma Day, but we're going to celebrate it a week early—Earth Day gets top billing next week, at least according to the Mediocre Host. So today show us a photo of a trip or outdoor adventure you took to the Sooner State (sooner means a week early, right?). Include the above hashtags in your post.

  6. #Pet #opcSpecialTheme Here’s my dog running across Perry Mesa in Agua Fria Natl Monument. We found him emaciated, with a limp and a broken tail on the Navajo Rez on the last day of a long 8500 mile road trip. We didn’t know anything about “Rez dogs,” so we naively tried to bring him to an animal clinic. When that didn’t work, we fed him some Nilla wafers (the only snack we had left in the car) and drove him home.

We named him Sipapu, after the emergence point into this world. He died in 2014.

  7. A lesser known DC memorial is the African American Civil War Memorial at Vermont and U Streets, which is also home to its associated museum—it’s on my list to visit next time. #CivilWar #opcSpecialTheme 📸

  8. After we visited George Rogers Clark NHP, we wandered a block or two up for some craft #beer at Vincennes Brewing. There was a guest tap that we couldn’t resist sampling: Sour Me Unicorn Farts, which is a glittered (yes, glitter) sour that tastes like kids cereal. It’s a collab between Duclaw and Diablo Doughnuts. No word on when (if?) the glitter ever exited our bodies. It might be stuck to that gum I swallowed in fourth grade. #opcSpecialTheme 📸

  9. Bonus #Nebraska #opcSpecialTheme post: a rather ornery review of my 2012 visit to the state’s #highpoint.

This was a couple days after (jokingly) visiting Mt Sunflower in Kansas, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and kicked off my quest to visit the “Highest Points of Otherwise Flat States” (which I later expanded into the “Drivable State Summits tour for Lazy Highpointers”) rscottjones.com/quests/high-po.

  10. #Nebraska #opcSpecialTheme

It's National Nebraska Day, so show us a travel or outdoors photo from the Cornhusker State. Include the two hashtags above.
