  1. "Relief Orange," Robert Delaunay, 1936.

French artist Delaunay (1885-1941) invented a short-lived style of modern art he dubbed Orphism, which centered on geometric shapes, mostly circles, and strong colors.

He loved experimenting with color and form, and his Orphist works, while not having much in the way of messages, were visually arresting. This one is a great example; the circles are all strongly colored, and the waves radiating from them, all overlapping and interacting, are fascinating to behold.

He later moved on from Orphism and experimented with Abstract and Surrealist work, and even dabbled in Dada, until cancer took him at 56.

There's something playful yet meticulous about this work, and makes me think of the Op Art movement of the 60s and 70s, which may have taken inspiration from him.

    From a private collection.

  17. Now, don't get me wrong. This is cool as fuck, it's nifty and you got to appreciate the commitment. This article presents it as some sort of brand new unbelievable thing that nobody's ever done before. About 20 years ago, I saw somebody who did the same thing with their desktop monitor

  19. Bridget Riley świętuje dziś swoje urodziny! To brytyjska artystka znana z op-artu. #BridgetRiley #OpArt (fot. 23. For last week's #CreativeCoding challenge topic of psychedelic, I took the Bezier shape triangle from my last #OpticalIllusion post and made it into a spiral configuration, with some trippy cascading motion. I sped it up for the video here, but you can control the speed to play it as slow as you want in this sketch (the full resolution and framerate and uncompressed will look a lot better of course):

  27. Since I've been doing more #Monochrome photography lately, I think I will post some monochrome #KoruTawa pieces on each #MonochromeMonday for a while. This one from two years ago is titled "Particulate City"

  29. "When Worlds Collide"
    2023/11/20

it is a large grid #KoruTawa with square dots, no side dots, and two large slightly overlapping circular groupings that include positive or negative inside and exclude outside. Many mid-dot columns or walks filled in first, with one positive large dots column in ascending size, then scatter dot groups filled the rest. The rendered PNGs are 230 MP (yet under 2 MB), and the model is 11 MB uncompressed.
