Bought a windows PC to do font editing on my own computer, instead of a work supplied MacBook.
'Remove desktop shortcut' was the 1st thing i did.? Classic. There are A LOT less desktop shortcuts now. Just the browser, which is also in the taskbar. Once is enough.
Delete shortcut confirmation dialog? Giving Windows 95 era, probably even earlier.
Windows rememvered my 2024 Orange boders choices, but they needed to be changed. With the aid of autocomplete searching for 'change colour' in the system settings I found another win 95 design gem, where i didnt get what I needed.
I later found the Window Vista vibe UI I needed.

Sidenote: One of the worst parts of dealing with Windows is that I can never really get trustworthy, thorough information about how different commands work and what their exact dependencies (up and down), advantages, and drawbacks are.

@da_667 A related annoyance I was reminded of today is that you can't complete the #OOBE with a "work or school" account (at least not on Windows Home editions). So say you're a small business that uses #Microsoft365 and you buy off-the-shelf laptops for your staff — they all need a *personal* #MicrosoftAccount to set up the device first. And here we are trying to encourage people not to mix their home and work stuff.

@clayrivers About 7-8 when I had my first #OOBE, intensely real, more real than this everyday physical “reality” around us now. I met two siblings who had died before me, a brother and sister. My parents had told me about the stillbirth not the miscarriage. And the intensity scared TF outta me, but once again they could not hear me, or did not care. A 2nd OOBE the next night cemented for me that my inner world, including my feelings, was REAL and they were too dumb to see and maybe I was adopted

#Cards Against Oobenauts
Inspired by custom version of Cards Against Humanity created by few people from lucid dreams forum. Now they have these cards printed, stored in cartoon box with label "Cards Against Oobenauts". I thought it looks like these cards are weapons or armor against #oobe amateurs 😄

@publicvoit About to watch the video, but I think that any #vim vs #emacs conversation is obsolete these days.
It's not #vim users that we need to educate about Emacs. It's #vscode users. And "not getting" Emacs is harder there.
Not only that, but we need a faaar better out-of-box experience (#OOBE) for Emacs. Doom gets partway there, but it has tons of rough edges and disables most of the friendly configuration UI.
