  1. One of the great features of @plexamp is the "On this day" section when you load the app up.

I always try to listen to whatevers featured. As my library grows though I imagine it'll get harder and harder 😅

Gary Numan had his second and final UK No.1 single with 'Cars'. Also on this day Gary Numan went to No.1 on the UK album chart with 'The Pleasure Principle.'
What is your favourite song from this album..?

  3. Happy birthday to Dave Grohl, 55 today!

  4. Led Zeppelin’s debut album was released on 12 January 1969, 55 years ago today.

It’s a truly fantastic record from start to finish but why not listen to Babe I’m Gonna Leave You: youtu.be/zX_wwlIZ6ko?si=MMetnz

  5. Any major dude will tell you that today is Donald Fagen’s 76th birthday.

Why not listen to all of Steely Dan? Or failing that, I.G.Y. from Don’s solo album, The Nightfly: youtu.be/Ueivjr3f8xg?si=AKK0wT

  6. It’s David Bowie’s birthday and he would have been 77. I still feel very raw over his death, probably because of things that had been going on in my own life, and those dark January days.

Anyway, let’s focus on his life and music. I’ve been listening to The Stars Are Out Tonight quite a bit, and it strikes me as being quite similar to China Girl in parts. The video is excellent: youtu.be/gH7dMBcg-gE?si=9kDfI4

  7. #RubberSoul by #TheBeatles was released 58 years ago today, on 3 December 1965.

    Listen to Nowhere Man: youtu.be/8scSwaKbE64?si=vv1DdW

Of my many older attempts to draw The Beatles, I was quite happy with this one just because of how Paul turned out. I know Ringo in particular is not great.

  8. Brain Salad Surgery by Emerson Lake and Palmer was released 50 years ago on 19 November 1973, sporting the memorable cover by #HRGiger, of which this is my version.

The name #BrainSaladSurgery was taken from the lyrics of Right Place Wrong Time by #DrJohn:

“just need a little brain salad surgery, got to cure my insecurity”

  9. A very happy 80th birthday to artist and brilliant singer-songwriter #JoniMitchell!

Listen to everything! But right now why not listen to In France They Kiss On Main Street, linked here in a live performance. And then maybe do more kissing on Main Street, why not.

  11. As @kathimmel reminds us, with another brilliant portrait, it’s #ArtBlakey’s birthday! So here’s my own Art art.

Why not watch and listen to Art and the Jazz Messengers play Moanin’: youtu.be/uKOoxgI_xfQ

  12. I’ve not drawn anything new and posted it here in an age, but out of a combination of self-care and trying not to lose my union card, see below a very quick, scrappy attempt at a hairy Beatle.

This is John in 1969, when he was only 28 or 29 years old. He was murdered not long after he turned 40, and would have been 83 years old on 9 October.

  13. An excessively, exuberantly happy 75th(!) birthday to the ever-youthful #RussellMael, born 5 October 1948!

Watch one of the very best music moments of 2023, when #CateBlanchett appeared onstage with #Sparks at #Glastonbury to dance to their recent single, The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte: youtu.be/YL97CRvXr9Q?si=u8IusX

  14. #JonLord, composer and keyboardist of #DeepPurple, died on 16 July 2012 at the age of 71. Lord is mainly responsible for my favourite Deep Purple song, Child In Time, from their definitive 1970 album Deep Purple In Rock.

  15. It’s only Jarvis Cocker’s 60th fucking birthday!

Watch this supreme performance of Running The World on French telly, with Richard Hawley and the recently-passed Steve Mackey: youtu.be/deiWnZK-duM

  16. Steve Mackey of Pulp sadly died this morning at the age of 56.

Outside of his work with Pulp, he was a busy producer, songwriter and sound designer, working with Florence and the Machine, The Long Blondes and on Jarvis' solo albums.

Steve even had a cameo role in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as a member of a rock band, along with Jarvis and members of Radiohead.

  18. Happy Birthday to Nick Mason, born on 27 January 1944. In addition to being Pink Floyd’s drummer and the only member of the band to play on every album, Nick has produced for #RobertWyatt, #Gong and #SteveHillage.

Most recently he formed Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets, a live band playing early Floyd numbers, with #GaryKemp on guitar and vocals.

  19. Richard Harris was born on this day in 1930.

Another towering, storied Irish talent who was much more than a “Harry Potter actor”, he also had a big hit with MacArthur Park in 1968, written by the brilliant Jimmy Webb (of Wichita Lineman, Highwayman and many others).

Listen to it today, perhaps watch this live performance, and remember to bring your cake inside at the first sign of showers.

  21. George Martin was born on 3 January 1926.

As well as his groundbreaking work with #TheBeatles, George produced some enduring and innovative comedy records, including the #BeyondTheFringe cast recording, bestselling records with #PeterSellers, a #GoonShow LP and Right Said Fred by #BernardCribbins.

  22. Huddie Ledbetter, aka Lead Belly, was born on 20 January 1888. Or 23 January 1888. Or 20 January 1889. There is some disagreement.
