  3. Spent the day around #Leslieville, it had been a while I had been around there. It’s quite nice and walkable

I always just found it “far” from the rest of the city, while there’s no shortage of streetcar they always feel so slow.

I saw the progress on the #OntarioLine stations, this will be transformative for the neighborhood. Had not realized how close each stations are.

  4. Yesterday I rode my bike up to the Millwood Bridge, which offers a really nice overlooking view of where Metrolinx is building a new subway bridge over the Don Valley. I wanted to see how the construction was coming along, and take a few pictures of the work-in-progress. It's honestly amazing to me how far apart the support pillars are for this bridge, and I have no idea how they are going to build the spans between them. But I look forward to finding out.

I realized while taking pictures that the crane operator has to climb up right to the top every day. The cherry-pickers they use to get people up and down don't reach nearly that high.

  5. I've just realized I'll probably be a senior when the Ontario Line is finally done. At least I'll pay less to use it.

  6. A crane suspends the long steel beam over the concrete-filled hole, then lowers it in. It took a bit of up/down wiggling, but it got all the way in.

  7. Once the hole is filled with wet concrete, the augur is used to lift the steel cylinder out of the hole, leaving the concrete behind.

In the background of the image you can see the giant steel beam waiting to be dropped into the hole.

  8. I spent some time this morning watching the construction of the Ontario Line portal on Pape. This is where the new subway line will be switching from above ground to underground. Currently they are building the supporting structures underground before they start digging the actual portal. The process is pretty cool.

First, they dig a very deep hole using a big augur. It has a drill in the middle, and a cylindrical outside that is left in the ground. In this picture you see the augur full of dirt that it dug from the hole. Behind it a cement truck is pouring concrete into the newly-drilled hole.

  9. Some interesting slides from Metrolinx regarding the #Sammon #Fulton #Aldwych & #Pape area for the #OntarioLine construction.

  10. #Metrolinx finally admits what everyone has been expecting, the Ontario Line will open later than 2031

It might also require closures of the DVP for some crucial engineering work (the line will go over the freeway)

  11. On my way home from Mount Dennis station I took the UPX to Union, then the Lakeshore East GO train so I could check out the construction of the Ontario Line between Union and Pape.

Most of the track bed is now laid down. The concrete for the Dundas bridge is not yet poured. The Logan bridge is in, but not surfaced yet.

The Don River bridge is half-installed (just the east half), and the foundations for East Harbour Station are well underway.

  12. This is cool -- metrolinx.com/en/projects-and- is the Ontario Line Truck Route Safety Plan, complete with lots of detailed maps of all of the truck routes for all of the various projects around the Ontario Line.

I'm guessing -- three years of construction, and then another three years of Why Isn't It Open Yet, Metrolinx?

  14. Ontario Line construction site mismanagement led this week to someone being run over in a crosswalk just blocks from my home, in a residential area with hundreds of kids.

The truck wasn’t following the official route, and this petition from the Pape Village Safety Action Council is pushing for better.

  17. It's been announced today that the Queen St detour track work is complete and the Queen street shuttle bus detour will stop on October 6th. The 501 streetcar can resume its operations along downtown.

The streetcar will still be on a new detour route until the end of construction of the #OntarioLine downtown (scheduled for 2027, but I suppose this is still TBD)
