  1. I know, it’s almost useless. But I enjoy parametric CADding. And I’m in the “every problem has a 3D printed solution” phase of 3D printing.

I will, however, never ever print anything that’s just a plate with holes. That’s what the laser cutter is for. #3DPrinting #OnShape #Electronics

  6. Double banana plug housing for my bench top power supply.

I wonder if I should print it in a single colour, in three colours on a dual extruder printer with a manual filament change after the middle plate is done, on the FabLab’s 5-filament Prusa XL, or just in three separate parts that I glue together. #3DPrinting #OnShape #Electronics

  11. @brett I use SpaceMouse Wireless and it is great for both 2D and 3D navigation in #Fusion360, #SolidEdge, #OnShape, #PrusaSlicer, etc. It took me a couple of days to get used to it, of course. I like rotating the model and looking at it from all sides and angles, zooming in and out to check some corners, filets, etc.

Can you go without one? Yes, but it makes using these tools flawless and easier vs. with regular mouse. It works in many other apps, too, but its main strength is 3D navigation.

  38. The Micro-Fit were the smallest-footprint panel-mount connectors that I could find that are oriented, can carry 3 Amps, and cannot be easily shorted by a flying metal part. The other contenders were 5.5mm Barrel jack (can easily be shorted, and are generally crap,) and Mini-XLR (unshrouded pins, easy to short as well, and larger footprint.)

The Micro-Fit protrude a little bit, which I’m not a fan of, so I recessed the control panel. 3/

  40. The original power supply is split in the middle and held by clips. Nobody wants that, so I made a flat base and a cover, and added holders for heat-set threaded inserts.

In addition to the 24V for the TS-101, I need 12V for the fume extractor. In order to avoid accidentally swapping the power cables, I chose 3-pin panel-mount Molex Micro-Fit connectors, and I’ll connect 12V and 24V to different pins. 2/

  41. I’m having a blast CADding this project in OnShape. It’s a new case for the power supply of my TS-101 soldering iron, with switches and connectors to plug detachable cables for the TS-101 and the fume extractor.

I started with a mock up. Then I CADded the original power supply, and finally modified it to add the control panel. 1/
