Oh dear. #OnlyConnect has hit the bottom of the barrel. Shouldn't have extended the run.
-
Have to say I thought that it was quite obvious it was degrees.

Anyway, #onlyconnect is an odd show to binge, but that was fun. How long until the Merseyside Eyes return?!?

"Hispi is a sort of cabbage"
"Let's do more cabbage-y things."
"Red is a cabbage-y thing!"

Megara's revenge, 11:11 should have made the final but it's at least made #onlyconnect

The Frenemies do seem to hate each other. #onlyconnect

Fashion! Merseyside Eyes are already my favourite team. #onlyconnect

anyway, I'm catching up on past episodes while finishing the red left over from Friday night dinner with Luca, so expect increasingly unhinged #onlyconnect opinions.

“Look at something else while I just randomly press cabbages, OK?” #OnlyConnect

Right, which one of you did Ship of Theseus last night, so I know who to shout at #OnlyConnect

My favorite quiz show #OnlyConnect 💙
What connects these 4 clues?
(on the show they are revealed 1 at a time for more points)

Oops! #OnlyConnect tweaking my inner pendant by referring to forks, spoons and *chopsticks* as cutlery. A knife is cutlery, forks and spoons are flatware and chopsticks are chopsticks.
Question setters knew, since the category was “earring implements” or something similar.

@Devonkiwi A team with such sartorial grace that they’ve got to go up against the Stitchers in a Fabulous Style Special one year.

Since blonde, badass British women are having a moment, Hannah Wasdington and Rebecca Lowe. Let me suggest another you should know of, Victoria Coren Mitchell, host of Only Connect. #OnlyConnect

CW: Only Connect series 3: Archers Admirers vs Gamblers
"Somewhere within your handful of straws lay the correct answer"
Nasty music question with homophones in the performers. But it's the semi-finals.
... and 180 degrees rather easy for this level.
What could connect David Walliams with St Paul? Wouldn't we just love to find out...
Resistor codes are in the colour of the rainbow, **roughly**.
Bad luck to the Archers Admirers, getting my sneaky question about palindromic dates. Had slightly hoped this would go out in the week of 01/02/2010, actually went out about six weeks later.
Yes, do try pushing some buttons. It does help to solve the wall, rather than just looking at it.
Adopted folk! Great spot by Jenny Ryan, she'll go far.
The good news is that i've no more questions in series 3.
The better news is that new #OnlyConnect resumes a week on monday.

CW: Only Connect s3: Neuroscientists vs Strategists
Really not a great episode, though redeemed by an exquisite Wall solve.
Subjects of odes by John Keates? Welcome to Only Connect on BBC4.
What do we know about bell hooks and ee cummings and kd lang? The definitive anti-capitalists of their era!
Strategists get my fiendish question about things banned by Oliver Cromwell and the 1640s Commonwealth. That one fell rather flat, like the rest of the round.
Why are "NineteeN" and "Twenty-eighT" written like that? Cripes, Only Connect played badly is like pulling teeth.
What is shown on the back of a £2 coin. What, indeed, is a £2 coin?

CW: Only Connect: Brasenose Postgrads vs Hitchhikers
Arrr, good guess from Captain Tom Scott of the Hitchhikers.
...and he could have had FIVE POINTS! for the datum of measurements. Instead of which, he gets Zero Points.
Things you can't do in the Commons. Someone with a better knowledge of Tom Scott's oeuvre will point to the edition where he covered this in greater detail.
Decreasing order of Wingspan? Let's check the rules...
Grads took a long time to think about a suit of armour. Remember, the sequence answers should be fairly familiar...
...such as my question about Bond girls. No! It's about women in the cabinet. Next was someone who just keeps cropping up on BBC4. Sorry, everyone.
"Let's try blood! YES!!!"
And those attributed famous last words they didn't have time to air:

CW: Only Connect series 3 reruns
"Nobody's heard of Charles Barry" said one of the Exeter Alumni.
Yes we have, he re-designed the Houses of Parliament, as we discussed earlier in the series.
The Alumni got to see that in the episode going out... on the monday after this heat was filmed.

CW: Only Connect: Philosophers vs Hitchhikers
Preceded by Newnham Cambridge vs Bristol from UC 2023, two of the most fun teams to watch.
Hitchhikers captained by freelance web and video editor Tom Scott, who may now be the most famous person to appear on civilian OC.
...and they get my question about Architecture and Parliaments.
That went perfectly: Niemeyer designed the whole of Brasilia, nobody remembers Charles Barry, Miralles died before seeing his design, and Foster was modestly famous in 2009 for the new Reichstag.
Architecture was an area the editor *really* wanted some questions on, cf Column bits later.
Superb spot by Tom on Red Books, if there's one person who might know the format for audio CDs...
And if there's one person who knows their Python... NOT THAT ONE!!!
"Rounds in The Krypton Factor?!" That's a good sequence, Tom ought to suggest it.
Does it say "crotchet" or "crochet"? Tom may be the first captain to play the wall like a computer game.

CW: Only Connect series 2 final
Cambridge Quiz Society played the Rugby Boys
"Wikipedia, a random splurge of rumour and guesswork." Plus ça change.
"Oh, that's Palladium". Yeah, it literally says that on the screen.
One Adolf Hitler clue in a final is unfortunate. Two looks like an error. In the question editor's defence, this series was recorded before Margaret Thatcher became the go-to most obvious answer.
Straight lines rather than strokes? Victoria's right that Q would have appeared if it were strokes; think this caused a bit of Conversation at the time.
Would there really be a group of Francises *and* a group of Rogers on the wall? Even at this stage, the Rugby Boys should have known better.
