Reassembly time for the Onkyo A-8470. The chassis has some weird construction in that some parts look like they need to be assembled a certain way, but you have to actually flip/rotate them 180 degrees. Always nice to have a service manual with an exploded view.

Hoping maybe the #Fediverse hive mind has some ideas about a problem.

My old workhorse Onkyo AV receiver died a few months back, and I replaced it with a Denon AVR-S970H. And it's driving me nuts.

My #TV is old, from the final generation of plasmas. Great picture. Sound is okay, but it only understands stereo and mono in uncompressed or AC-3 formats. Anything else sent to it - different codec, or multichannel/surround - is ignored and you get no sound. But that's okay!

Most of the things I watch that have stereo sound I just want to listen to through the TV anyways - TV shows, old non-spectacle movies, documentaries, all that sort of stuff. When I have a Big Movie with a #surround soundtrack, that's when I want to listen to it through the fancy speakers and the #AVR.

With my old #Onkyo, this was easy: the receiver always played the sound through itself and also sent it to the TV. If I wanted simple stereo, I'd just mute the receiver. If it was a surround sound thing, the TV just ignored it.

The #Denon... doesn't do this. I have to configure whether to output the sound through the TV, or through the AVR. There's no option for "both".

Nutzt hier von euch jemand einen halbwegs aktuellen #Denon oder #Onkyo AV-Receiver und kann mir sagen, ob. z.B. Android Cast damit einfach funktioniert?
Mein konkretes beispiel: Streaming direkt aus Plexamp heraus auf den AVR. Denon faselt immer nur von ihrer HEOS Cloud Lösung, die ich explizit nicht möchte (weil eben cloud fu).
Bonuspunkte für Erfahrungen mit #HomeAssistant und Streaming von HA auf den AVR, idealerweise einfach als Media-Entity...

Finde leider wenig brauchbares dazu..

I’ve got #CEC over #HDMI (#Anynet+ on #Samsung TV) so my #AppleTV #SiriRemote powers the ︎TV box, TV, and #Onkyo receiver adjusts receiver volume, and operates the ︎TV normally (as shown in the photo).

On occasion, the settings to do this in the ︎TV disable. It initially all powers up but then only the ︎TV can be shut off (not the TV or receiver) and no volume control. And this setting in the ︎TV menus can’t be re-enabled. Only way to fix is to pull the power for everything and plug back in.

Bought a Onkyo NR-7100 with dirac live audio.

1. The Dirac Live app itself really sucks. Particularly on Android.

2. The onkyo controller app is better as it eventually saves the configuration. But not much better.

With this said after the calibration runs the difference between before and after is noticeable. Lots of room correction done in this 16 x 10 room with a 5.1 klipsch speakers. But once done everything locks in.

Worth having on any system.

So I need a friend residing in the US to *literally* smuggle a minuscule 2.5 USD IR sensor for my #Onkyo receiver, that is no longer produced, and for which I'll have to pay about 30 USD to take out of customs if I order from DigiKey. Any takers? I suppose a small padded envelope will do, and I'll actually get 5 units as I expect it to break again (common failure) in the future.
